“Supporting the national agency, namely BSSN, is not only critical but a necessity. BSSN not only functions to protect the nation from hackers but predict the potential cyberattack which will threaten national sovereignty,” said CEO of DesktopIP, Phidi Soepangkat.
(ADS) Heaptalk, Jakarta — During Indonesia’s third presidential debate, presidential candidate number one, Anies Baswedan, mentioned the lack of Indonesia’s government concern in strengthening national cyber security.
Anies perceived that under the leadership of Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto, who is also a presidential candidate number two, the state only focused on purchasing second-hand military equipment and put aside national cybersecurity. Since then, Indonesia’s cybersecurity and the capability of the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) to face cyberattacks have become a hot topic.
In response to this issue, the CEO of DesktopIP, Phidi Soepangkat, voiced that in the digital world, every nation should reinforce its national cyber army, notably in Indonesia, by supporting BSSN.
“Supporting the national agency, namely BSSN, is not only critical but a necessity. BSSN not only functions to protect the nation from hackers but predict the potential cyber-attack which will threaten national sovereignty,” said Phidi Soepangkat.
In his view, he highlighted BSSN’s role, which is not only maintaining the cybersecurity of other government institutions but also ensuring the cyber security of all Indonesians. For this reason, he said that providing full support to the national agency is a must.
Utilizing the national product in this field will be the best way to protect the country because the government can monitor the components inside. This measure will also reduce dependency on other countries, giving the archipelago 100% control of its national defense.

“If we use foreign country’s products, we will always have a dependency on it, at least to get the latest updates. Meanwhile, hackers will always upgrade their skills to attack our cybersecurity, and the updates should be carried out regularly. Moreover, we never know who the hacker is; maybe it can be the cybersecurity provider themselves,” said Phidi.
In this statement, Phidi implied that the utilization of cybersecurity products from other countries would be high-cost and high maintenance. To overcome this point, strengthening the national security system and massively adopting it becomes one of the best solutions.
In addition to driving the utilization of local cybersecurity systems, Phidi noticed that the adoption of national technology, particularly the national cloud, is also critical.
“Strengthening the adoption of national cloud in the digital world is important because all digital technology is supported by cloud,” stated Phidi.
According to him, using the made-in-Indonesia cloud will enable the country to easily control and maintain its own system and data, and this step will also automatically enhance national cyber security.
Aiming to support national cybersecurity, Phidi stated that DesktopIP initiated a collaboration with BSSN to create a made-in Indonesia cloud with BSSN’s cybersecurity system. For information, DesktopIP is a pioneer of national cloud, which has obtained the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) result of 87.71% from the Ministry of Industry. The combination of DesktopIP technology and the BSSN system is expected to support other government institutions and the private sector in enhancing their cybersecurity system and strengthening the archipelago’s resilience.
However, Phidi mentioned that the national technology product also encounters great challenges, one of which is gaining the Indonesians’ trust.
“The trust in our technology and our institution remains diminutive because many people believe that foreign products are more advanced than our national product. But I believe that Indonesia also has great capability. We only need support in terms of policy and funds,” concluded Phidi.
