Heaptalk, Jakarta — Vivo Indonesia has launched a scholarship program titled Vivo NexGen Scholar, in collaboration with the Hoshizora Foundation and Electronic Engineering Polytechnic Institute of Surabaya (PENS). This program is designed to bridge education and industry needs, particularly in the rapidly evolving digital transformation era.
Registrations are open from April 14 to June 22, 2024, for the 2025/2026 academic year. A total of 60 full scholarships will be awarded to selected prospective students who qualify through the National Achievement-Based Selection (SNBP) and National Test-Based Selection (SNBT) pathways to pursue studies at PENS, one of Indonesia’s leading vocational institutions in technology.
In more detail, the scholarship prioritizes six majors deemed crucial for technological industry development: Informatics Engineering, Applied Data Science, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Industrial Electrical Engineering, and Game Technology. The Vivo NexGen Scholars program will be conducted in three selection stages, including document and essay screening, interviews, and background checks.
Alexa Tiara, Vivo Indonesia’s Public Relations Manager, stated that the company views investment in education as a strategic step toward building the nation’s future. “Through Vivo NexGen Scholars, we aim to expand access to education in science and technology, equipping Indonesia’s younger generation to compete and address global industry challenges,” she said in a written statement.
Focusing on science and tech-based education
Additionally, PENS was chosen as a partner due to its reputation as one of Indonesia’s top polytechnics. According to the 2024 Webometrics ranking, PENS ranks first among all polytechnics in Indonesia. Its excellence in technology and electronics and significant contributions to engineering research and education make it a strategic partner for Vivo Indonesia in nurturing competent young talents in science and technology.
Prof. Amang Sudarsono, Vice Director of Cooperation and Technology at PENS, emphasized that science and technology-based education is key to preparing the younger generation for Industry 4.0 challenges. As a vocational institution, PENS strives to create a learning ecosystem that aligns with technological advancements and industry demands. He added, “Collaboration with the industry is one of our ways to achieve this. Beyond financial aid, this program allows students to engage directly in the tech industry ecosystem, enabling holistic growth and better workforce readiness.”
On the other hand, the Hoshizora Foundation is a non-profit and non-governmental organization dedicated to expanding access to quality education for Indonesian children through an ecosystem-based approach. Established in 2006, the foundation carries out its mission by providing scholarships, teacher training, and parental support. It also offers capacity-building programs and mentoring to ensure scholarship recipients can pursue their education effectively.
