Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology will establish the Digital Transformation Expo and Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) at the peak of the G20 Forum. These initiation will involve the collaboration of Indonesia’s digital ecosystem to accelerate the digital transformation from upstream to downstream.
Secretary-General of The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Mira Tayyiba, stated “We, of course, deliver the digital transformation from upstream to downstream, but being more focus on the infrastructure side. So, We invite all of you, Ladies and gentlement, the Working Group and Engagement Group who have use cases in the digital sector, to participate with us in the Digital Transformation Expo. We expect the infrastructure We build as the upstream, can be beneficial in various circumstances,”
Indonesia’s government will emphasize on four matters at Indonesia’s Presidency G20 in 2022, namely health issues, digital transformation, and energy transition. In line with digital transformation issues, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology is delegated to overcome the digital problems.
Indonesia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Johnny Gerard Plate, proposed an innitiation to enhance the status of Digital Economy Task Force (DETF) into the Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) in August 2021. This proposal has been approved, allowing Indonesia to lead the Digital Economy Working Group at G20 2022. As a result, the member of the G20 Forum will have structured authority to increase synergy on digital issues.
Furthermore, Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information appreciated the stakeholders involved to bolster the DEWG plan. Through this initiation, Indonesia’s Presidency G20 is expected to reach tangible outcomes to boost developing countries’ necessities. DEWG has several primary homeworks that should be tackled, such as connectivity and post COVID-19 recovery, digital skills and literacy, cross-border data flow, and data free flow with trust.

By the elevation from DETF to DEWG, we expect that Indonesia’s Presidency G20 can create concrete outcomes not only for developed countries but also for developing countries,” said Mira in a statement.
