Heaptalk, Jakarta — Telkomsel has announced its collaboration with Tencent Cloud, a cloud company, and MCash, a digital infrastructure company, to adopt palm scanning technology to enhance customer service.

This collaboration enables the exploration of biometric palm scanning technology designed to identify individual customers based on the unique patterns on their palms. This technology works by reading and mapping the palm’s veins, fingerprints, or skin patterns, which are then used for customer verification.

Palm scanner technology offers several advantages, including convenience. The palm scanning process is not affected by factors such as height, facial resemblance in twins, or crowded environments. The scanning process in the hand area also reduces the risk of errors by minimizing the chance of incorrect responses due to camera capture. Additionally, this technology is agnostic, meaning it can be used across various types of hardware, software, and platforms.

Through this collaboration, Telkomsel will implement palm scanning technology in the customer verification process, known as Know your Customer (KYC), within the workplace and in customer service and B2B services. By implementing this technology, the company aims to improve operational efficiency and provide a better and more secure service experience.

Enhancing customer experience

Adiwinahyu Basuki Sigit, Telkomsel‘s Director of Sales, stated that the palm scanner implementation aims to enhance customer convenience, speed, and security. He said, “This collaborative effort is also aligned with Telkomsel’s vision to become the leading provider of digital telecommunications services and to create a highly competitive Indonesian society.”

Jimmy Chen, VP of Tencent Cloud International, and Business Director of Tencent Cloud APAC, welcomed the collaboration with Telkomsel and MCash to explore the application of palm scanning and verification technology. According to him, this technology enhances user convenience and security and drives innovation and digital transformation in Indonesia.

“Through this collaboration, we hope to accelerate the adoption of more efficient and secure digital solutions and support Indonesia’s efforts to build a strong and sustainable digital ecosystem,” Jimmy said.

Meanwhile, Martin Suharlie, CEO of PT M Cash Integrasi (MCash), conveyed that this collaboration demonstrates his party’s commitment to providing innovative and beneficial digital technology for society. As a digital infrastructure company in Indonesia, MCash has a robust ecosystem and plays a significant role as a tech enabler in integrating various leading technologies to deliver diverse digital products.

“By combining our expertise with Telkomsel and Tencent, we are confident in delivering efficient and secure identity verification technology, enhancing customer service for the better,” Martin concluded.
