Heaptalk, Jakarta — Telkomsel, together with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, has officially validated Indonesia’s first Wi-Fi 7 technology with the speed capability of up to 10 Gigabits (Gbps) per second or 28 times faster than Starlink 360 Mbps.
“Together with stakeholders, particularly Telkomsel, we will continue to strive to present the latest technological evolution developments in Indonesia. Also, we provide opportunities to encourage telecommunications operations, to continue to innovate to provide services with the latest technological standards,” Director of Resource Management at the Directorate General of SDPPI at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Denny Setiawan, said.
This SOE enterprise claimed that the upgraded Wi-Fi could provide higher internet speeds, greater user capacity, lower latency, and efficient energy savings. In trials with Lower Power Indoor (LPI) device specifications, the functionality and capabilities of Wi-Fi 7 have demonstrated performance and stability that can significantly improve the network experience and exceed expectations.
As cited by Intel, a 320 MHz channel of this latest internet network indicates twice the range of previous Wi-Fi. Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (4K QAM) allows each signal to save more data than 1K QAM on Wi-Fi 6/6E. Wi-Fi 7 is 2.4 times faster, reaching around 5.8 Gbps compared to Wi-Fi 6/6E. The latest Wi-Fi 7 enables 8K video streaming and simplifies the download time of a 15 GB file by approximately 25 seconds compared to the former.
“The latest Wi-Fi validation aligned with Telkomsel’s vision to become a leading regional telecommunications service provider. As the first to present the advantages of Wi-Fi 7 technology in Indonesia, we also look forward to continuing to unlock multiple opportunities to improve service quality and provide a better digital experience for business activities inclusively and sustainably,” Ronald Limoa, Vice President of Technology Strategy and Consumer Product Innovation at Telkomsel, affirmed.
