Naver, the tech company behind Line and Webtoon, launched HyperCLOVA X to provide users with generative AI-based search and services tailored to enterprise clients.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — South Korea’s tech company Naver is joining the AI technology wave by officially introducing a generative AI tool called HyperCLOVA X (08/24).
This product launch aims to provide users with generative AI-based search and new services tailored to enterprise clients. HyperCLOVA X includes the conversational chatbot CLOVA X and the generative AI-based search engine Cue.
“We are ready to face a new transformation called generative AI. Now in the era of generative AI, a fierce battle is under way to get picked by services and business partners,” said CEO of Naver Choi Soo-yeon during the product launch at the DAN23 event (08/24), quoted by Reuters.
The generative AI tool is built on Naver’s previous LLM in Korean language called HyperCLOVA which was released in 2021. Naver did not specify the number of parameters HyperCLOVA X has. However, its predecessor LLM has been trained for more than 204 billion parameters.
Additionally, the company behind the messaging app Line and digital comic platform Webtoon claimed that the tool is an improved version of previous LLMs which were prone to hallucinations and misinformation as well as had deficiencies in providing up-to-date information, performing calculations, and generating or interpreting images.
The beta service of CLOVA X has been accessible since August 24, 2023, in English and Korean. Cue will be ready for beta testing in September and embedded into Naver’s search engine in November.
Further, Naver will start operating its second data center GAK Sejong with 600,000 servers for the HyperCLOVA X service in November as reported by TechCrunch. The company is also collaborating with Samsung to develop AI chips for hyperscale AI starting in December 2022.
