Snapchat is now equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot named My AI which is armed with the latest version of OpenAI’s GPT technology.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — Snapchat photo messaging app developer, Snap Inc., introduced an artificial intelligence chatbot namely My AI (02/27). The AI chatbot runs the latest version of OpenAI’s GPT technology, providing an experimental feature for Snap+ subscribers.

Snap Inc. embeds the chatbot on the app’s chat tab above the conversations with friends. At the beginning of the launch, the subscription is available at a price of $ 3.99 per month. According to Snap CEO Evan Spiegel, the release of My AI chatbot aims to serve 750 million Snapchat monthly users, as cited by The Verge.

“The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we are going to talk to AI every day. And this is something we are well positioned to do as a messaging service,” said Evan, quoted from The Verge.

My AI is trained to respond to fun and creative things in everyday life, including birthday gift recommendation ideas for a best friend, planning a hiking trip for a long weekend, suggesting a recipe for dinner, or writing short poetry about cheese for a cheddar-obsessed pal. Further, users can give the chatbot a name and customize the wallpaper for the chat.

Responding to the weaknesses of chatbot technology that have been circulating before, My AI is claimed to be able to avoid biased, incorrect, harmful, or misleading information. However, errors can still appear.

According to Snap Inc. in its blog post, My AI is prone to hallucination and can be tricked into saying about anything. Therefore, the company reminded users not to rely on the chatbot to ask for advice or share any secrets. “All conversations with My AI will be stored and may be reviewed to improve the product experience,” stated Snap Inc.

Previously, ChatGPT quickly received public attention as a productivity tool. Meanwhile, Snap implements an AI chatbot to function as a persona, according to the Verge’s Report. My AI plays a role similar to a friend in Snapchat, not a search engine. The profile chatbot page also resembles another Snapchat user profile, even with its own Bitmoji alien.
