Snap enriched My AI’s ability to generate images in response to user queries. The company also added new safety guardrails to the AI chatbot.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Snap Inc. announced that its artificial intelligence chatbot, My AI, will be able to respond to user messages with AI-generated images, as reported by Reuters according to Snap’s annual Partner Summit (04/19).
The expansion of chatbot AI capabilities is expected to accelerate the development of augmented reality (AR) features, namely computerized images overlayed on top of photos and videos from the real world.
Powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, My AI was launched on February 27, 2023, for premium Snapchat+ subscribers who pay US$3.99 per month. The good news is that now this AI chatbot can be accessed by all users for free based on Snap’s latest announcement (19/04). However, My AI’s new image-generating capabilities will be available first on Snapchat+, which currently has 3 million subscribers.
This AI chatbot is claimed to have the ability to help users in responding to queries related to fun and creative things in everyday life, for example suggesting birthday gift ideas for a best friend, planning a hiking trip for a long weekend, suggesting a recipe for dinner, and writing short poetry about cheese for a cheddar-obsessed pal.
According to Chief Executive Officer of Snap Evan Spiegel, my AI can help users get into more parts of the Snapchat app by recommending lenses, which can add effects to photos and videos. The chatbot can also recommend real-world places to visit via the app’s map feature. “This is the first time we are bringing AI into communication, which is the core of our service. People are really using My AI as a creative tool,” Evan said as quoted by Reuters.
Adding new safety guard-rails
Further, the company also added new safety guardrails to My AI, including temporarily limiting a user’s access to the chatbot if they repeatedly ask inappropriate or harmful questions. This is in response to some concerns about AI, including plagiarizing published work, providing inaccurate information, or giving malicious feedback.
Spiegel said that based on Snap’s analysis of user conversations with My AI, 99.5% of chatbot responses comply with Snapchat’s community guidelines. He also added that My AI will now also take the user’s age into account to ensure age-appropriate conversations.
In addition to adding new capabilities to My AI, Snap also announced the launch of a new store-mountable AR mirror to help customers try on clothing items virtually or see which accessories go well with their outfits. Some retailers, including Nike and Men’s Warehouse, use mirrors in several stores.
