Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia (Telkomsat), a satellite services operator, collaborates with Ellon Musk’s Starlink, to provide internet services for Indonesian enterprises. This collaboration allows competitive services equivalent to the business packages offered through the Starlink website.
The partnership was marked by the signing of cooperation agreement which was carried out by Telkomsat President Director Lukman Hakim Abd. Rauf and Starlink Commercial Sales VP signed a cooperation agreement (05/15).
“The momentum of this collaboration further strengthens Telkomsat’s position as Starlink’s first and main strategic partner in Indonesia,” said Telkomsat President Director Lukman Hakim Abd. Rauf.
For information, Telkomsat and Starlink have embarked their partnership since 2021. The two companies have been providing Starlink backhaul services since 2022, taking advantage of the anchoring rights granted by the government. Lukman uttered, “The backhaul infrastructure deployed by Telkomsat can provide quality satellite connectivity services while still guaranteeing national data sovereignty and security.”
Telkom Corporate and Communication SVP Ahmad Reza highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration between the Telkom Group, represented by Telkomsat, in supporting government programs. He stated, “Our collaboration with Starlink clearly demonstrates our commitment to accelerating the equal distribution of connectivity throughout Indonesia, particularly in the 3T (Least Developed, Frontier, and Outermost) regions.”
Besides launching the Merah Putih 2 Satellite in early 2024, the company is committed to improving internet connectivity in Indonesia. Through collaboration with Starlink, Telkomsat will focus on unserved and underserved areas. Unserved areas have not received terrestrial and cellular connectivity services, while underserved areas have received terrestrial and cellular connectivity but are not yet adequate (underserved).
