According to President Director of Surge, Surge and IOH can optimize their infrastructure for fast internet distribution through the development of FWA in Indonesia.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — A digital service company, PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (WIFI), known as Surge, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT Indonesia Ooredoo Hutchison (ISAT) in developing fixed wireless access (FWA) and selling telecommunication products as reported by Pasardana.

This cooperation is expected to optimize the potential of each entity in presenting fast connectivity that is affordable for the Community and has a positive impact on the financial performance of both.

“The strategic collaboration created between Surge and Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison is a joint mission in delivering reliable and affordable connectivity for all Indonesian people,” said the President Director of Surge Hermansjah Haryono, as quoted by Pasardana. Through the development of fixed wireless access, the two companies can optimize their infrastructure for fast internet distribution in Indonesia.

Further, this step is expected to boost fixed broadband internet penetration in Indonesia, which is still relatively low, only around 15% of total households enjoy unlimited internet access. One of the reasons for this condition is the high price of connectivity services in Indonesia.

Collaborating with several well-known global tech companies

“We, WIFI, are the only connectivity provider company in Indonesia that has fiber optic networks in three different segments, namely railroads, toll roads, and highways,” Hermansjah added.

Since early 2023, Surge began developing fixed wireless access connectivity services by collaborating with several well-known global technology companies, such as Qualcomm, China Huaxin Post & Telecom Technologies, Fujian Taikuk Technology Investment, Fiberhome, and Baicells. This is part of the company’s efforts to achieve the penetration target of 10 million households on the island of Java.

Founded in 2012, Surge focuses on several business activities, covering fiber optic network infrastructure, digital products and services, and fiber optic networks. The company officially listed its shares on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) with the stock code WIFI on December 30, 2020.

Currently, the company has deployed a total fiber optic network of 5,724 km. Surge is optimistic that it can help and contribute to Indonesia, primarily in developing digital ecosystems, improving the quality of education and public services, as well as encouraging the digital economy in Indonesia.
