Heaptalk, Jakarta — GoTo Group, Indonesia’s digital ecosystem, announced its collaboration with Microsoft Indonesia to boost productivity across its engineering teams by adopting GitHub Copilot (09/10).
As the world’s most widely adopted AI developer tool, GitHub Copilot is claimed to boost engineers’ productivity in daily coding tasks with its AI capabilities. Several functions of this tool include real-time code suggestions, chat assistance in the integrated development environment, and breaking down complex coding concepts using daily conversational language.
According to Hans Patuwo, GoTo’s Chief Operating Officer, adopting this AI-powered coding assistant has enabled his engineers to enhance code quality and accomplish more in less time. “GoTo engineers have reported significant time savings averaging over seven hours per week, allowing them to innovate with greater speed and to bring more value to our users,” Hans said.
Adopted fully by mid-Oct 2024

The engineers also see an early code acceptance rate of 30% within their first month of adopting the tool. This means 30% of code suggestions made by GitHub Copilot are accepted or used by GoTo engineers, a solid figure on the higher end of the average acceptance rate of 26-30% typically seen among engineers using GitHub Copilot.
Since June 2024, almost a thousand GoTo’s engineers have adopted this tool, with a full rollout expected by mid-October 2024. Insight, a Microsoft partner, provides close assistance throughout this rollout process, ensuring that GoTo fully leverages GitHub Copilot’s extensive capabilities.
Nayana Hodi, Engineering Manager, GoTo added, “GitHub Copilot has significantly reduced syntax errors and provided helpful autocomplete features, eliminating repetitive tasks and making coding more efficient. This has allowed me to focus on the more complex elements in building great software.”
Delivering more excellent user value
Meanwhile, Sharryn Napier, Vice President for APAC at GitHub, conveyed that GoTo has implemented an impressive evaluation strategy, collaborating directly with engineers to collect first-hand measurements that showcase real impact. He uttered, “By quantifying the value of Copilot from the start, GoTo is building strong momentum for widespread adoption and accelerated learning across their engineering team.”
Andrew Boyd, General Manager, Digital Natives & Startups, Microsoft Asia, stated that by integrating GitHub Copilot into the engineering processes, GoTo equips their teams with the tools to innovate faster, enhance productivity, and ultimately deliver more excellent user value. “Trust and technology go hand-in-hand, and this collaboration underscores our shared commitment to harnessing AI technology, creating meaningful opportunities for all Indonesians, and accelerating an inclusive digital transformation agenda as part of Microsoft’s Empowering Indonesia initiative,” Andrew concluded.
