Heaptalk, Jakarta — Google rebrands its artificial intelligence Bard as Gemini. This brand transformation aims to catch up with a big-scale investment opportunity in AI.

In an announcement on the official website, the Chief Executive Officer of Google, Sundar Pichai, said, “Bard has been the best way for people to experience our most capable models directly. To reflect the advanced technology at its core, Bard will now be called Gemini.”

Besides rebranding its bard, this search engine company based in the United States launched its largest state-of-the-art AI model, Gemini Advanced, as a new experience for users to access Ultra 1.0.

As the most preferred chatbot, Gemini Advanced with Ultra 1.0 is more capable of complex tasks like coding, logical reasoning, following nuanced instructions, and collaborating on creative projects. This tool has been available in over 150 countries and is only limited to English. To maximize users’ experiences in each market, this technology giant will expand Gemini’s language models, such as Japanese, Korean, and others.

An early version of Gemini Advanced reflects the company’s current advances in AI. As Google adds new features, users will have expanded multimodal capabilities, more interactive coding features, and deeper data analysis capabilities.

“We continue to take a bold and responsible approach to bringing this technology to the world. And, to mitigate issues like unsafe content or bias, we have built safety into our products following our AI Principles.” Vice President and General Manager of Gemini, Sissie Hsiao, said.

Before launching Gemini Advanced, the team conducted extensive trust and safety checks, including external red-teaming. Google’s team refines the underlying model using fine-tuning and reinforcement learning based on human feedback.

To gain maximum experience, users can access Gemini Advanced at US$20 per month after a two-month free trial. This subscription includes several benefits from the Google One Premium Plan, including 2TB of storage and a VPN. Subscribers can also use Gemini in apps, spanning Gmail, Docs, Slides, and Sheets.
