Heaptalk, Jakarta — Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology arm of Alibaba Group, announced its collaboration with Shiseido China, a skincare company, to develop an AI-powered consumer application (08/19).
This collaboration allows Alibaba Cloud to embed its AI model Qwen into Drunk Elephant’s chatbot DrunkGPT. Shiseido acquired Drunk Elephant, a skincare brand, in 2019. This stride is intended to enhance customer interaction in China by responding to customer inquiries, from product recommendations to skincare tips, with more nuanced and personalized responses.
Furthermore, this initiative aims to deliver a richer brand experience by offering innovative digital engagement opportunities. This app provides a 24/7 AI-powered skincare assistant designed to address consumer skincare concerns and provide personalized advice.
Trained with hundreds of billions of parameters

Drunk Elephant has developed its customer chatbot, DrunkGPT, by leveraging Qwen-mas, Alibaba Cloud’s newest foundation model with hundreds of billions of parameters. This chatbot is designed to serve as a customer engagement platform to deliver brand philosophy and address customers’ inquiries regarding skincare issues.
Yosano Masahiro, Head of Solution Architect for Japan at Alibaba Cloud, stated that his party saw growing demand from customers across sectors, especially in retail, for exploring opportunities in generative AI. He said, “We are excited to offer our full stack of AI offerings from infrastructure, various AI models, to tools and services for AI application development, supporting them to better capitalize on the booming AI trend.”
Meanwhile, Andy Cai, Brand Director of Drunk Elephant China, said that the company aims to pioneer retail innovation to offer a unique shopping experience for our customers. “We are pleased to tap into the transformative power of Alibaba Cloud’s AI to bring skincare retailing to another level. We believe that this collaboration with Alibaba Cloud will help us further grow our brand value and better engage with our tech-savvy young consumers,” Andy added.
Chinese consumers can now access the Drunk Moment page within Drunk Elephant’s mini-program. This page features DrunkGPT, which users can interact with through text or voice input. The chatbot provides real-time responses in text and voice formats, further enhancing consumer engagement. Alibaba Cloud’s automatic speech recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech (TTS) technologies power the voice interaction capabilities.
