“We (8X8) are thrilled by early adopter results for our new Omni Shield solution, including an 80% reduction in fraud traffic,” said Stephen Hamill (09/05).
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Cloud-based contact center and communications platform as a service (CPaaS) provider 8×8 introduced its newest service called Omni Shield for enterprises in Indonesia to safeguard their customers from fraudulent SMS activity (09/05).
Omni Shield as the SMS fraud prevention communication API is part of the 8×8 CPaaS portfolio which aims to help enterprises boost their business growth by integrating multiple communication channels, including SMS, voice, chat apps, and video interaction.
SMS fraud is known as the automation of sending high-volume, high-cost SMS messages that cybercriminals can monetize by charging fees for sending messages to companies that are unknowingly victims of fraud. According to the Fraud Loss Survey Report 2021 by the Communications Fraud Control Association, fraudulent SMS activity, such as toll or international revenue share fraud, was estimated to have resulted in losses of over $6.7 billion globally in 2021.
General Manager of CPaaS at 8×8 Stephen Hamill conveyed that SMS fraud can have huge impacts including enormous costs on customer experiences and brand reputation. He said, “To meet the needs of our customers, we are constantly evolving our 8×8 CPaaS portfolio as we evaluate customer pain points and develop solutions that will deliver substantial business value. We are thrilled by early adopter results for our new Omni Shield solution, including an 80% reduction in fraud traffic.”
8X8 serves 150 clients across diverse industry sectors
Further, Omni Shield can be seamlessly integrated with real-time messaging across web and mobile applications. This 8X8 innovation is claimed to detect and prevent fraudulent activity through automated fraud notifications, real-time notifications, real-time traffic monitoring, and instant checking of telephone numbers.
Currently, 8×8 serves 150 clients across diverse industry sectors in Indonesia with the top three sectors spanning e-commerce, financial institutions, and logistics. According to the Country Manager of CPaaS at 8×8 Indonesia Hastaryo Cahyadi, the size of the customers varies from unicorn to small and midsize business (SMB). Privy, the digital signature and digital identity service provider company, is one of 8×8 customers using CPaaS services including Omni Shield.
“If we look at the volume of messages sent to us, 90% come from enterprise customers sincer their usage is much higher than SMB customers. “For example, e-commerce or banks use our services to deliver OTP, massive blast, communication via Whatsapp, or two-way communication,” concluded Hastaryo.
