Heaptalk, Jakarta — PLN has entered a partnership with global fashion company H&M Group to provide eco-friendly electricity (06/24). Starting in 2025, PLN will supply H&M with 210 Gigawatt hours (GWh) of green energy per year. This move showcases the state-owned enterprise’s support for decarbonization in the domestic industrial sector.

Executive Vice President (EVP) of Sales and Customer Service Enterprise PLN Nayusrizal and Regional Country Manager of China and Southeast Asia H&M Jessica Wilhelmsson signed the Green Energy as Service (GEAS) memorandum of understanding (06/19). PLN UID West Java will serve as the dedicated source of green electricity for H&M’s factories in the West Java region.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained that PLN is committed to mitigating the impact of climate change by providing electricity from environmentally friendly sources. “As a company leading the energy transition in the country, PLN appreciates H&M’s initiative to use PLN’s green energy. This is a historic milestone in promoting energy transition and sustainability in the national fashion industry,” Darmawan stated (06/24).

Provided with Renewable Energy Certificate

Responding to the partnership, PLN Retail and Commerce Director Edi Srimulyanti detailed that the GEAS Dedicated Source, which will be used by H&M Group in 2025, is a service for industrial sector customers requiring green electricity supply from PLN’s renewable energy plants. This service comes with an internationally recognized Renewable Energy Certificate (REC).

Edi explained, “H&M and its partner factories, as our loyal customers, are dedicated to promoting sustainable practices, including eco-friendly electricity. Therefore, through this signing, we commit to providing green energy needs for H&M and its partner factories.”

Meanwhile, Regional Country Manager of China and Southeast Asia H&M Jessica Wilhelmsson added that H&M Group envisions transforming into a circular business and strongly supports using clean energy. The company is determined to collaborate for energy transition and achieve systemic change in the industrial sector.

“The government has committed to achieving net zero by 2060, with many initiatives and innovations underway, including PLN’s REC. In previous collaborations with PLN, more than 30 of our suppliers have implemented REC. This is a significant achievement that can only be reached through close collaboration,” Jessica conveyed.

The World Resources Institute Indonesia (WRI Indonesia), an independent research institute promoting inclusive and sustainable national socio-economic development, also attended the agenda. WRI Indonesia is a partner of PLN in achieving the Net Zero Emissions (NZE) target by 2060 or sooner.
