Heaptalk, Jakarta — PLN has supplied 8,978 megawatt hours (MWh) of green electricity to fashion company PT Fast Retailing Indonesia (Uniqlo Indonesia). Through the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) service, this collaboration enables Uniqlo to use renewable energy to support the energy transition in Indonesia.

REC, as explained by Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PLN, is a service that empowers customers to adopt new renewable energy in a transparent, accountable, and globally recognized manner. The REC certificate is a clear indicator of the use of renewable energy.

“We appreciate Uniqlo’s initiative to use PLN’s green electricity to support the energy transition and sustainability of the country’s fashion industry. We are also committed to providing the best green electricity service through REC,” Darmawan said in his written statement.

According to him, the utilization of PLN’s REC marks a vital collaboration in the journey to achieve Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060. This state-owned enterprise will continue to encourage various parties to actively participate in reducing carbon emissions, one of which is through the REC service.

In agreement with Darmawan, the General Manager of PLN Unit Induk Distribusi (UID) Jakarta Raya, Lasiran, also appreciated Uniqlo’s use of PLN’s green electricity for all its offices and tenants in Indonesia. Collaboration from all parties is needed to achieve the energy transition program.

Lasiran hopes that Uniqlo’s initiative can serve as an example for other companies using environmentally friendly electricity. He said, “Uniqlo’s initiative requires a high awareness of the importance of clean energy. We hope more companies follow this lead.”

Meanwhile, Uniqlo’s Sustainability and corporate PR Manager, Yulia Rachmawati, stated that this step promotes the use of new renewable energy as part of the company’s commitment to sustainability. “In line with our sustainability pillar values, we are committed to using renewable energy in all our stores in Indonesia as part of our efforts to contribute to the environment and planet for a better life for everyone,” Yulia concluded.
