Fortune Indonesia, renowned for its insightful coverage of the business landscape, proudly unveils its prestigious “40 Under 40” list this year. This esteemed compilation recognizes 40 dynamic young Indonesians who have significantly impacted various sectors, spanning from business to entertainment. Quoting Fortune Indonesia, “Their presence disrupts and deserves attention.”

Among the notable individuals listed are Tomy Yunus and Yohan Limerta, the Founders of Cakap who have played pivotal roles in establishing Cakap as a technology-based educational platform. Tomy currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) while Yohan holds the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Cakap.

Cakap commenced its operations by providing foreign language learning services, encompassing English, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, and Indonesian, primarily catering to expatriates. Subsequently, it expanded its portfolio to encompass over 1,175 vocational courses tailored to the development of Indonesian talents. Not confined to adult learners, Cakap also provides foreign language classes for children as young as 4 years old, catering to English and Mandarin languages. In 2023, Cakap expanded its reach into blended learning education for children through Cakap Kids Academy.

Additionally, Cakap offers a variety of vocational courses through Cakap Upskill, featuring high-quality content and instructors who are experts in their fields. Cakap has also previously conducted programs aimed at empowering foreign language teachers under the name Cakap Teacher Academy.

The selection criteria for the 40 Under 40 list encompass a spectrum of factors including experience, achievements, career sustainability, and the contributions they have made. Those who have been chosen demonstrate resilience, attentiveness, and an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning. Based on the assessment above, Cakap Founders, Tomy Yunus & Yohan Limerta, have demonstrated their dedication in delivering impact and resilience in facing various challenges to persevere and even transform those challenges into opportunities for growth.

According to Hendra Soeprajitno, the Editor-in-Chief of Fortune Indonesia, “While it may seem effortless to evaluate the outputs they (those 40 lists) generate, behind it lies a lengthy process that has brought them to this point.”

Achievements and Impact in Education

With a commitment to elevate people’s lives and fostering the potential of Indonesian talent through transformative learning solutions and career advancement opportunities, Cakap has amassed over 4.5 million students, 2,300 educators, and 19,500+ modules. Cakap has also reached 61 out of 62 remote areas classified as 3T (Tertinggal, Terdepan, and Terluar). In alignment with its developmental trajectory, the company, classified as a Centaur valuation entity (USD 100 million-1 billion), has achieved substantial growth across all sectors and has registered favorable EBITDA figures.

Through its “Cakap untuk Bangsa” (Cakap for the Nation) program, Cakap aims to create long-term change by focusing on four main areas: quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, and reducing inequality. These efforts aim to provide high-quality education to expand job opportunities and foster social equality, ultimately envisioning Indonesia as a global leader by 2030.

With the inclusion of Tomy Yunus and Yohan Limerta in Fortune Indonesia’s 40 Under 40 list for 2023, their contributions, alongside Cakap, in the field of education receive further recognition. Congratulations to the founders of Cakap, Tomy Yunus, and Yohan Limerta! May they continue to succeed and inspire the younger generation, leaving a lasting impact on Indonesia.
