Most Wanted Talent During the New Normal/
New normal today is at the same time with the shifting industry into 4.0. A 2019 McKinsey Global Institute Analysis study finds that globally some 375 million talents may change their job category and have to find a job for fresh graduates. And in this situation working is tend to be done more dynamic, with automation, and virtual. And undoubtedly, this change will have an impact on employment.
Also, according to Nia Sarinastiti, Inclusion & Diversity Lead Accenture in Indonesia, those who are looking for in the future are individuals who can work with a more productive and adaptive approach by utilizing digital technology. “All talents in the world will be affected. Now the question is, what can we prepare? ”
It is best to learn online courses for abilities such as programming, design, writing, social media, business analyst, and project management to adjust to the current demand. Because what is needed in the fourth industrial revolution, which will become the world of work in the future?
“Companies want creative talents to experiment. Not only acknowledging and accepting the situation as it is but must give challenges to yourself. We do not only do what we are asked to do but work beyond. Of course, because of that, we have to be more agile, “explained Nia.
According to Lily Surya, Managing Partner of Egon Zehnder Indonesia, a human resource consulting agency, in an era that is often associated with big data, companies need people who can connect a lot of that then make assessments and make strategies based on existing data. On the other hand, as talents, we must also be prepared as most of the companies are tend to talent validation through a self-assessment that based on the data and profile.
He gave an example; large companies such as Wallmart in the United States use big data to find the best store managers. Through data such as sales figures, employee turnover, and engagement with subordinates, they can know which manager is the best. Although digital technology is increasingly playing a role in work, technical skills are also needed in the future, but the most important thing is the growth mindset.
“Individually, we must not only have one skill. We must be willing and courageous to try new things, do things differently, and take feedback. Listening to suggestions and continuing to learn how to do something better than before, “said Lily.
Facing a world that demands good digital literacy, Lily is quite optimistic that even those without a science and technology background can participate. “As long as we have a growth mindset, we can make changes,” he said.
He added the corporation expects employees who are always trying to make changes and desire to automate repeatable processes and employees who are creative and create something new. With consistent changes and innovations, the corporate is also expecting employees to remain a high engagement as they must always take the initiative with new ideas and projects.
President Joko Widodo had offered several tips to face industrial change challenges when he gave a public lecture at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), Seoul, South Korea, 19 September. First, stay calm and continue to be positive and optimistic. Second, don’t be afraid to try, because he believes it’s better to try something new, even though there is a risk of failure, than not to try at all. Third, the most important thing is to take action. He advised us to start the smallest effort.
“Make yourself relevant, open to collaboration, flexible, agile, and willing to learn. If we don’t want to, it will be difficult. This applies to all individuals, all ages, both men and women, “said Nia.
