Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Unicharm Indonesia Tbk (Unicharm) launches limited-edition products using biomaterials in three categories: MamyPoko baby diapers, Charm sanitary pads, and Kirey antibacterial wet wipes.
“The release of these three products using biomaterials is a first for the Unicharm Group,” said Takumi Terakawa, President Director of Unicharm.
Further, he mentioned that the company has been developing products using biomaterials since 2022 and aims to increase the number of products incorporating these materials.
“From our research, consumer awareness of eco-friendly sanitary pads has doubled in the last three years. Additionally, natural material diapers have become a significant consideration for consumers when choosing baby diapers, with interest tripling in the past year. Observing these changes in consumer awareness, coinciding with this year’s World Environment Day, Unicharm is launching Charm, MamyPoko, and Kirey Antibacterial Wipes products made from bio materials,” Takumi added.
He also explained that Charrm Cooling Fresh Bio offers a similar cooling sensation to the regular Charm Cooling Fresh, utilizing biomaterials in several parts of the product, such as the packaging, top sheet, back sheet, side sheet, and wing sheet.
Meanwhile, Charm Daun Sirih Bio retains its primary function of odor prevention and uses biomaterial throughout the product, including the cover sheet, second sheet, and individual packaging. All parts that come into direct contact with the skin in these two products use 100% biofiber, making them gentler on the skin and more eco-friendly compared to similar products launched last year.
“MamyPoko Royal Soft Bio incorporates biomaterials in 80% of its components, including packaging and other parts. Its superior absorbency and dryness are comparable to regular MamyPoko Royal Soft diapers. Notably, the top sheet that contacts the baby’s skin is made from 100% organic cotton, ensuring safety. This reflects our commitment to providing products that are not only environmentally but also comfortable for parents and children,” he said.
For Kirey Wipes Bio, the plastic fibers used in each tissue sheet have been entirely replaced with a blend of bio fiber derived from sugarcane and recycled PET. This product also possesses multiple superiors, such as the antibacterial properties, softness, ease of use, and alcohol-free benefits of the regular product.
Environmental Advocate Tasya Kamila emphasized that addressing ecological issues requires more than government efforts. According to her, everyone must perform small actions, including decreasing bottle usage and using green-friendly bags.
“Additionally, we can contribute by choosing and using environmentally friendly products like those launched by Unicharm,” she said.
