In the post-pandemic era, e-commerce remains the most practical online shopping platform for people in the archipelago. As one of the well-known e-commerce platforms, Tokopedia recorded multiple enhancements related to online shopping transactions and the products most sought after by users available on this e-commerce platform.
As the Head of Communications of Tokopedia, Aditia Grasio Nelwan, revealed, “We noted several the most outstanding-selling product categories purchased by people via Tokopedia, such as Household and Groceries, consisting of food and drink, beauty and body care product,”
The growth of online shopping also influences the increase in e-commerce users in the archipelago. Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry disclosed that e-commerce users attained 179 million in 2022 and is forecasted to reach 196 million in 2023. Regarding the transaction, Bank Indonesia also estimated the e-commerce transaction value will touch US$37 billion (around Rp572 trillion) by the end of 2023.
Furthermore, the number of sellers and transactions on Tokopedia in various regions of Indonesia, such as Sampang (East Java), Barito Kuala (South Kalimantan), and Tanggamus (Lampung), has also elevated with an average of almost 1.5 times in growth. In terms of transactions, several of Indonesia’s regions, such as Southwest Maluku (Maluku), Yahukimo (Papua), and North Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara), also evolved in the number of transactions with an average of up to two-fold increase.
Tokopedia also demonstrated the highest increase in transactions in several categories of beauty and body care products, such as perfume and cologne, essential oils, and massage oils, with an average of up to twofold elevation. The company also recorded transaction growth with an average increase of 2.5-fold for household products, spanning cleaning tools, air fresheners, and party supplies.
The food and beverage products also showcased a significant growth of over three-fold. Besides, this giant e-commerce also noted the considerable enhancement of digital products, including local tax, e-invoicing, and internet and TV, which gained a seven-fold enhancement throughout 2023.
