Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Brain Cipher Ransomware hackers have officially provided a description key to access the encrypted data in the National Data Center system in Surabaya for free.
In their explanation, the hackers conveyed hackers spilled the reason for attacking the data center. According to them, data centers are a high-tech industry that requires huge investments, and everyone who has made this business should know this.
“In this case, the attack was so easy that it took very little time to unload the data and encrypt several thousand terabytes of information. Nevertheless, we independently made such a decision; this did not require the intervention of special services and law enforcement agencies.” the hacker said.
Deciding to unlock the PDN description, the hacker group affirmed the determination was the first and last opportunity they gave the key to a victim. They concluded that negotiations had reached a dead end when the second party transferred access to the talks to a third party.
“We will wait for the second party to officially confirm that the key is working and the data is restored. Only after that will we permanently delete the data. If the party says that they have restored the data on their own or with the help of third parties, we will publish the data.” The hacker affirmed in the Stealthmole.int X account.
On June 20th, 2024, the National Data Center (PDN) in Surabaya was hacked by the Lockbit 3.0 type of Brain Cipher Ransomware. This disruption of the government’s critical data paralyzed dozens of public services, including immigration in Indonesia.
“We hope our attack made it clear how critical it is to finance the industry and recruit qualified specialists. Indonesian citizens, we apologize for the fact that it affected everyone,” the hacker affirmed.
