Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s climate-tech startup, Rekosistem, announced its strategic partnership with Mandiri Capital Indonesia (MCI) to provide two waste stations in Jakarta’s central business district, specifically at Menara Mandiri Building, South Jakarta, which is expected to collect about 5 tons of waste in the area.
These entities perceive that inorganic waste management remains of tremendous urgency to be resolved in the archipelago. According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the volume of inorganic waste generation occupies the second largest proportion (34.5%) after food waste (40.7%). This output indicates that more than 7.3 million tons of national waste have yet to be managed effectively.
The presence of this waste station is MCI’s confirmation of implementing Environmental and Corporate Governance (ESG) principles. Moreover, Rekosistem is a startup assisted by the MCI accelerator program in 2023, Zenith.
Currently, CEO and Co-Founder of Rekosistem, Ernest Christian Layman, has affirmed the company will focus on retrieving waste management around the Java region and intends to unlock waste stations in other areas, including the National Capital City (IKN).
“We look forward to Reko Waste Station delivering a positive synergy between Rekosistem and MCI in encouraging an environmentally friendly lifestyle to achieve Net Zero Emissions,” added Ernest.
To boost Indonesia’s waste management, this startup will scale up its waste management capacity to over 20,000 metric tons of waste monthly for the next two years after its newest funding completion at US$5 million from Skystar Capital, East Ventures, and Provident as of last October 2023.
To achieve its goal, this climate-tech startup plans to execute numerous strategic actions, spanning a waste management system development, expanding an Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine Learning implementation, and human resources allocation for the recycling technology enhancement.
Also, the team will improve the company’s material recovery facility, namely Reko Waste Station and Reko Hub. By broadening the waste station and Reko Hub provision in multiple locations, Rekosistem has reduced plastic waste by up to 30%.
“Supported by Rekosistem’s technology, this waste station can efficiently accommodate recycling waste into other useful objects. We hope this facility can be used appropriately to create a clean environment.” CEO of PT Mandiri Capital Indonesia, Ronald Simorangkir, said.
Users can download the Rekosistem application through the Google Play Store / App Store before placing their waste. The waste collected can be exchanged into a shopping voucher and e-wallet balance as a reward.
