Heaptalk, Jakarta — State Electricity Company’s subsidiary, PLN Indonesia Power, established cooperation with China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd (CEEC) to discover comprehensive green energy development in Sulawesi as reported by CNBC Indonesia.
Marking this cooperation, representatives of both parties signed a joint development study agreement (JDSA). PLN’s President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that this cooperation is one of the company’s efforts in preparing the National Electricity Business Plan (RUKN) which will be released in collaboration with the government soon.
The latest business plan stipulates that Indonesia’s new renewable energy ecosystem will be supported by hydro and geothermal-based plants of 32 gigawatts (GW) as well as solar and wind-based plants of 28 GW. The document also includes the development of green transmission lines which will play a crucial role in distributing green electricity between islands.
Connecting islands to build green transmission lines
“There is a mismatch between the location of hydro and geothermal sources and the load center. For this, we need to connect Sumatra to Java, Kalimantan to Java, East Nusa Tenggara to Java, Kalimantan to Sulawesi, in which there will be a large project to design and develop green transmission lines,” Darmawan explained in a written statement quoted by CNBC Indonesia.
Darmawan further added that as a key player in the energy transition agenda in the country, the company continues to establish synergies with national and global partners to accelerate the massive use of new and renewable energy. These efforts are in line with the Government’s agenda to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060 or sooner.
Board Chairman of CEEC Group Song Hailiang expressed his party’s readiness to support the Indonesian Government in achieving NZE by 2060 or sooner. CEEC is optimistic in this regard as the company has a long history of cooperation in developing new renewable energy with PLN. “Indonesia is a valuable partner for China in jointly developing and contributing to the 2060 NZE target in Indonesia,” Hailiang concluded.
