Heaptalk, Jakarta — As social creatures, we are living with the help of many people. Indeed, people with high social status, financially secured, and high skills capability still need help when experiencing difficulties. For example, when you have a lot of money and intend to do a renovation of your house, but you are not proficient in doing that thing, then you might be deciding to ask someone expert to do that.
Because the truth is, no human being can live alone, that there must be some moments for us when to need help from others. This concern is the key point being carried out by the PatunganYuk team. This non-profit organization based in Jakarta focuses on helping each other by conducting social campaigns through crowdfunding, and the outcomes are then funneled to those in need. It could be social parties like Aksi Cepat Tanggap, Isyef, Tangan di Atas and others — or directly to society’s affected group by the flood, fires, landslides, earthquakes, and others.
Adis Ratih Trisiana, Founder of PatunganYuk, tells us that she initiated this social movement with her colleagues for around three years is to reminds everyone about the importance of sharing things with each other or charity.
“We want to help people empowering them against the affliction that can be considered as people who are less fortunate, affected by the disaster, and in honestly need for help to fulfill the basic needs like food, medication, and education,” Adis explained.
From the minor initiatives, she also added that she invites her close relatives, including her family and her friends, to share donations from their heartfelt scale, not to mention how big or small it is. She also stated that the organization enacts the policy for the internal member to donate Rp. 25.000 per month.
“We do this initiative to habituate ourselves for giving alms, even though the amount is small,” said Adis.
Besides that, most people also believe in the blessing where the charity can be considered the way to streamline their incomes, protect them against disaster, and prolong their life. And sometimes, someone who spares a part of their wealth into a charity may feel that they get uncountable satisfaction.
However, the problem somehow appears whether the people can trust the charity fundraising party they just saw. Because in some cases, there are found that the fundraiser exclaimed that they are raising the fund, but practically they used the fund by themselves for some other reasons — they do not distribute it to the right receiver. Moreover, they do not have the transparency of the handling of funds distribution.
For this reason, Adis emphasizes its operations on the official partnering with the national-acknowledged charity institutions since they just covered up on the region of Jakarta Greater Area. Therefore, the donations addressed to the outer region and province can be delivered in the right way. In some cases, they also delivered directly to the receivers’ locations if the distance is reachable from Jakarta.
As for the fundraising campaign strategy, Adis, together with his community friends, conducts the campaign online through social media channels by utilizing informative posters and narratives that engage people to donate.
“Apart from that, we have another program entitled “sale sedekah” where we receive donations of clothes that are suitable for use. Then we sell them at the bazaar/car free day, and allocate the outcome for humanitarian programs, such as for social institutions, victims of natural disasters, and various school construction that require funds.” Adis said.
