INDEF’s research in several major cities revealed that users preferred Gojek as an online transportation and logistics provider.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF) survey results show that the online transportation and logistics industry is a fairly resilient industry, even in the midst of economic uncertainty. The research was conducted in August and September 2022 through a survey of online transportation consumers and online traders as consumers of online logistics.

According to INDEF Program Director Esther Sri Astuti, online transportation has become a necessity since the service can raise mobility as well as save time and money. In the survey, consumers stated that they will use the service even if there are no promos.

Esther further said that demand for the services tends to stabilize after the easing of mobility restrictions with the frequency of use of each user on average 4-12 times per week. The demand for online services continues to increase due to the shifting in people’s consumption patterns from offline to online which are growing in the midst of a pandemic and are expected to continue after the pandemic.

Meanwhile, users of online logistics services will continue to use and increase the frequency of use in the future as they can scale up business productivity with online logistics services. Esther said that security becomes the main concern of consumers in choosing online transportation services, while for online logistics services, consumers prioritize service quality. In addition, consumers are also starting to consider time efficiency in choosing online transportation and logistics services.

INDEF conducted a survey of online transportation service providers in six major cities in Indonesia, namely Jabodetabek, Bandung, Palembang, Yogyakarta, Denpasar, and Balikpapan involving 2,310 respondents, while a survey of online logistics service providers conducted in Jabodetabek, Bandung, and Surabaya with 1,155 respondents. The selection of the city was based on economic and population size which represented the overall population.

Gojek is the most favored online transportation and logistics

“Even though consumers have more than one online transportation and logistics application on their smartphones, Gojek is still the brand with the highest level of satisfaction among consumers,” said Esther.

Around 82% of respondents chose Gojek as an online transportation service provider, followed by Grab (53%) and Maxim (19.6%). Consumers rate Gojek as the most satisfying brand as it provides the highest sense of security. In addition, according to consumers, the Gojek application has the easiest user interface compared to other applications.

Meanwhile, for online logistics service providers, 64% of respondents chose Gojek, followed by Grab (42%) and ShopeeXpress (28%). Gojek’s logistics service, namely GoSend, is considered the most to increase the productivity of social sellers because the service is efficient, safe, and easy to use.

Esther delivered that online transportation can be a complement to the existing public transportation services. Her concern is that the current public transportation infrastructure is not yet available properly, causing people to still prefer using private vehicles which are considered more comfortable, easier, and faster to reach their destination.

Currently, public transportation infrastructure is not yet available properly, causing people to still prefer using private vehicles which are considered more comfortable, easier, and faster to reach their destination. At the same time, driving private vehicles tend to be tiring and causes stress, especially during traffic jams. Therefore, Esther concluded that online transportation services become a preferred choice for the Indonesian people.
