Heaptalk, Jakarta – On Thursday (04/22/2021), Modena, a company that provides household appliances, marked Earth Day with a celebration to remind people of the importance of environmental rejuvenation. By adopting the theme of Modena For Earth, the event demonstrated Modena’s commitment to constantly inspire society.
At the age of 40, Modena has grown into a mature company reflected in its step to evoke society’s consciousness in environmental issues by creating an event to celebrate Earth Day. The event that took place in Modena Experience Satrio Jakarta was attended by Andini Effendy as the Nature Ambassador of Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (YKAN) – an Indonesian Foundation with a mission to protect lands and water.
During the event, Andini spread her opinion about preserving nature. According to her, maintaining nature is not always conducted by planting mangroves. People can start to act on the simplest things in their home, such as reducing plastic use, not buying unnecessary stuff, and avoiding buying more food than the people need. She added that preserving the environment by reducing household waste is one of the most efficient ways due to the waste donating a considerable percentage to the total amount of trash in Indonesia.
“Ironically, DKI Jakarta is the second largest food waster globally, whereas plenty of people still suffer from hunger edema. In fact, 60-70% of the waste in Bantar Gebang is contributed from household trash. This fact should lead us to think that preserving nature should be started from our house,” said Andini.
The event also invited Ali Abdullah as Co-Founder of Warung 1,000 Kebun, a start-up that sells organic staple food. On the occasion, Ali stated his philosophy that plant is a living creature. Maintaining and treating a plant is a form of people communicate with the plant. In return, the plant will provide people with a good harvest. Aside from its food supply function, farming also holds a vital role in lowering carbon dioxide and donating oxygen to the Earth.
Further, the presence of Modena Vice President of Marketing Strategy, Jimmy Tjan signaled that Modena is seriously concerned to environmental issues while strive to inspire people in preserving the planet. The seriousness is also manifested from Modena’s actions shown in the event. Modena intentionally turned off the electricity in all of its offices to commemorate Earth Day. In accordance with the theme, the Company also served plant-based menu dedicated to reducing carbon impact.
During the event, Modena delivered that the Company has reduced carbon emission by altering its delivery process through functioning bicycles to replace the motor vehicle for the shipment of light and small house appliance.
In addition, Modena also demonstrated the protection to Earth by implementing the principle of 3R, namely reuse, recycle, and reduce in its operational system. The action can be seen from Modena’s evolution that has transformed its system, such as in the procedure of asking approval, to digital so as the Company can minimize the use of paper.
As the Company’s initiative to leverage the environmental care to the public, Modena rewards butterfly pea seeds to its customer that buy Modena’s product with a minimum purchase of Rp2 millions. The campaign is conducted to allow people to experience the pleasure of growing tree, hence people can start to love farming and plant more trees. The activity is expected to increase people’s awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability by involving public engagement.

Around five and a half hours per day. This amount is larger compare to the other areas in Asia and Europe. So, Our action that will be implemented is spreading education about this renewable energy, such as solar panel,” said Jimmy.
