Heaptalk, Jakarta — Online transportation companies in Indonesia have agreed not to provide holiday allowances for online motorcycle taxi drivers. Responding to this, the Ministry of Manpower emphasized that providing Eid al-Fitr bonuses (THR) to online motorcycle taxi driver partners and couriers is not an obligation.
“Once again, we emphasize that the Ministry of Manpower only gives advice. In its implementation, it is up to the company whether to provide the bonuses or not, considering its non-obligatory nature,” explained the Director General of Industrial Relations Development and Employment Social Security, Ministry of Manpower, Indah Anggoro Putri on the Ministry’s official page.
Further, Indah admitted that the Ministry of Manpower will not impose sanctions on applicators who do not want to pay Eid bonuses to driver partners.
Meanwhile, Special Staff from the Ministry of Manpower, Dita Indah Sari, added, “Although they are not obliged to give THR, I ask the applicator to show solidarity and a sense of humanity from the applicator company to its motorbike taxi drivers.”
Previously, Gojek stated its compliance with the Ministry’s appeal to provide Eid bonuses. “We respect the advice issued by the Ministry of Manpower and always follow government regulations and applicable regulations,” said Gojek’s SVP Corporate Affairs Rubi W. Purnomo in a press release (03/20).
Likewise, Grab also has prepared special incentives for the Eid al-Fitr holiday for driver-partners. “In accordance with the urge from the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower that the form, amount, and mechanism of holiday allowances can be given in various forms and adjusted by each applicant,” concluded Chief of Public Affairs for Grab Indonesia, Tirza R Munusamy (03/19).
