Heaptalk, Jakarta — The National Data Center (PDN) has not yet recovered from the ransomware attack. Consequently, the crucial data in 55 Indonesian Ministries and Government Agencies cannot be restored.

To overcome this issue, Minister of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Budi Arie, following a meeting with the Indonesian House of Representative (DPR) Commission (06/27), announced his party’s plan to issue strategic regulations. These regulations will mandate ministries and institutions back up their critical data, enhancing cybersecurity.

Further, he mentioned that the Ministerial decree would be signed on Monday, July 1st, 2024, at the earliest. He emphasized that the forthcoming regulation would make the data backup policy mandatory.

“This policy will be mandatory, not optional, as determined before. I will sign the Ministerial Decree no later than Monday next week,” Minister Budi said.

By issuing the data backup policy, Budi expected the critical data that the center and regional governments owned would remain safe, even if affected by a ransomware virus like the current incident.
