List of outstanding Venture Capital firms in Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia is a robust market for venture capital firms and private equity investments, with a total transaction value of US$14.1 billion in 2018.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — The presence of venture capital firms is critical for business sustainability as this company backs the business through capital disbursement support. The funded startup companies usually contain an immense business prospect for the long term.

As it is known, cited in Alpha JWC Ventures, Southeast Asia is a promising market for venture capital firms and private equity investment to pour the investment into the startup businesses, with an announced transaction value worth US$14.1 billion in 2018.

Regardless of comprising tremendous business potential, many venture capital firms are also based in this region. The following is a list of Southeast Asia’s most active venture capital.

  • Alpha JWC Ventures

Established in 2015, Alpha JWC is one of Southeast Asia’s most outstanding venture capital firms. The company unveiled its debut with initial funds worth US$50 million as Indonesia’s first independent and institutional early-stage venture capital fund. Alpha JWC Ventures has an active portfolio of over 70 companies, including Kopi Kenangan, Finaccel, Carro, GudangAda, and Ajaib.

Regardless of providing early and growth financial investment, this venture capital firm also focuses on long-term investment, with targeted companies in financial technology and the sustainable consumer sector.

  • East Ventures

Established in 2009, East Ventures has over 250 funded companies, with over 450 founders and 30 exits. During the company’s journey in 2022, East Ventures has disbursed capital over 80 times this year, with managed funds of US$960 million. The company portfolios include ALAMI, FitHappy, KoinWorks, and Komunal.

  • AC Ventures

Founded in 2014, AC Ventures has invested in more than 120 startups in Southeast Asia, with an Asset Under Management (AUM) value of over US$500 million. Focusing on early-stage startups, AC Ventures has poured capital into several technology startups, including Ula, Shipper, Xendit, Carsome, Ideal, and SkorLife.

  • Qualgro

Based in Singapore, Qualgro is also one of the venture capital firms in SEA, with a mission to support every talented entrepreneur interested in global and regional development. This company emphasizes its investment activity around a Series Seed, A, and B round and has invested in Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Further, Qualgro also spotlights its investment agenda into the B2B, SaaS, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) industries. According to the Crunchbase data in 2021, Qualgro possessed about 33 portfolios, covering Ralali, Funding Societies, EngageRocket, Edmicro, and Shopback.

  • Openspace Ventures

Highlighting its investment core in the early-stage technology companies in Southeast Asia, this firm’s investment portfolios include B2C and B2B technology startups. Openspace Ventures company generally invests in Series A and B, with a commitment fund worth US$500 million. Openspace Ventures has more than 61 investment portfolios based on Cruchbase in 2021. The company’s portfolio covers GoTo Group, Biofourmis, SensorFlow, Finnomena, and Nano (VUI).

  • Insignia Ventures Partners

Insignia Ventures is an investment firm with a mission to invest in technology startups around Southeast Asia. The portfolio has spread to several countries, including Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia. During the investment journey, Insignia Ventures managed its portfolios of 67 in 2021. The funded startups consist of Tonik, Edmicro, Shipper, Super, and Rainforest.

  • Global Founders Capital

Established in Germany, this venture capital firm focuses on seed and growth with government-oriented that activate entrepreneurs. On the other hand, Global Founders Capital targets to invest in several sectors, covering AI, reality, big data, commerce, finance, and game. During the investment activity in 2021, this venture capital firm has invested in about 151 companies, spanning Traveloka, Lazada, Klikdaily, UnaBrands, and Naluri.

  • SG Innovate

Founded in 2016, SG Innovate is one of the most significant venture capital firms based in Singapore, with a mission to boost the technology startup extensively. On the other hand, the company’s primary focus to enrich its portfolios is based on multiple sectors, including B2B in MedTech, Quantum Tech, finance, and AI-B2B companies. SG Innovate has more than 71 portfolio companies in 2021, covering Whitecoat, Funding Society, Eureka AI, and Biofourmis.

  • Gobi Partners

This venture capital firm is based in Singapore and was founded to catch opportunities in China’s technology, media, and telecommunication enhancement. This company has evolved with nine branches in China, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines. As recorded by Crunchbase in 2021, Gobi Partner has elevated its portfolio to 163 companies, covering Orami, Deliveree, Fastwork, Carsome, and Glints.
