Coursera recorded up to 129 million registered users globally. Indonesian registered learners have contributed to this Coursera’s growth of 1.4 million registrants.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — An online learning platform based in the United States, Coursera, has augmented its learning service on its platform by launching an extensive learning catalog in Bahasa and unveiling its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered feature, Coursera Coach, to improve access to high-quality education and make online learning more personalized and interactive.

With these newest initiatives, Coursera has translated around 2,000 courses into Bahasa, using its AI-powered GPT-4 technology capability. Coursera’s top courses include The Science of Well-Being from Yale University, AI for Everyone from DeepLearning.AI, Programming for Everybody from the University of Michigan, and What is Data Science from IBM, which has until recently been available only in English, will be accessible to users in Bahasa.

Furthermore, this online course platform also released the Coursera Coach (beta) feature devoted to Coursera Plus customers. As a virtual learning assistant, this generative AI-powered provides personalized feedback, answers questions, and summarizes video lectures and resources. The coach feature will also back learners with interaction in the local language.

“Emerging technologies like generative AI are transforming how we learn, teach, and work. With the surge in digital jobs and remote work, we are excited to empower Indonesia’s learners and institutions with several content and AI innovations to bridge the rural-urban gap and build an inclusive workforce,” affirmed the Managing Director in Asia Pacific of Coursera, Raghav Gupta, during the press conference, Jakarta. As the demand for online learning grows, Coursera aims to bridge Indonesia’s digital skills gap and boost the country’s economy, whereby digital skilled talents are projected to contribute to Indonesia’s GDP at US$303.4 billion by 2030. The company also observes Indonesia’s workers who use any level of digital skills could earn double the salaries (193%) of workers who don’t utilize digital skills at work.

“Indonesia’s ambition to play a pivotal role on the global stage depends on its ability to cultivate a skilled workforce. Our mission is to create equal access to world-class, and today marks a big moment as we use the power of AI to bridge the language and learning divide for millions across the country,”

As the company said, the launch of this initiative was carried out along with its user’s significant growth of up to 34% in the Indonesian market YoY. As the second largest market for this online course company, Coursera’s 2023 Learner Outcome Report revealed that 80% of Indonesia’s learners could experience their career benefits (80%) and personal advantages (98%).

During the first half of 2023, Coursera recorded up to 129 million registered users globally. Meanwhile, Indonesian registered learners itself has contributed to this Coursera’s growth of 1.4 million registrants. As one of the largest markets, Coursera targets providing courses for around 10 – 15 million users in Indonesia in the coming years.
