Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) recorded substantial growth in its passenger count during the Eid 2024, serving 4,398,125 passengers. This figure includes 3,748,886 long-distance train passengers and 649,239 local train passengers, marking a significant 14% increase compared to the previous year’s 3,841,954 passengers.

During the Eid transport period from March 31 to April 21, economy class trains emerged as the preferred choice of the public, accommodating 3,166,650 passengers. This was followed by the executive class, which served 1,044,050 passengers; the business class, with 172,911 passengers; the luxury class, with 12,941 passengers; and the compartment suite, with 1,573 passengers.

KAI VP Public Relations Joni Martinus said that customers’ favorite routes are Jakarta-Surabaya round trip, Jakarta-Malang round trip, Jakarta-Yogyakarta round trip, Jakarta-Purwokerto round trip, Jakarta-Semarang round trip, and Bandung-Surabaya round trip.

“We express our appreciation to internal and external parties such as DJKA, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of BUMN, TNI, Polri, KNKT, Fire and Rescue Services, communities such as Railfans and Scouts, as well as all parties who made it possible for KAI’s 2024 Eid Transport to be carried out well. This motivates KAI always to provide excellent service to the entire community,” said Joni.

Passenger occupancy reached 104%

Passenger occupancy during the Eid 2024 transportation period reached 104% of the total seats provided, which is 4,222,058. Primarily for long-distance trains, the occupancy reached 114%, where the seats provided are 3,283,204 seats.

Meanwhile, tickets sold exceeded the seat quota due to dynamic passengers, referring to passengers boarding at intermediate stations. These passengers get off and on at stations between the departing station and the destination station. For example, on the Jakarta-Surabaya train, some passengers from Jakarta get off in Cirebon, some passengers get on from Cirebon and get off in Semarang, and some passengers get on from Semarang and get off in Surabaya. Thus, the Jakarta-Surabaya trip that should have been counted as one ticket becomes three.

“KAI will continue to improve passenger facilities on trains and at stations. We are optimistic that KAI will continue to grow, building a transportation ecosystem with endless innovation and creativity. We can embody the motto with a united spirit towards a new KAI for an advanced Indonesia,” concluded Joni.
