Heaptalk, Jakarta – Today, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is starting the trial of face-to-face learning in 85 schools in Jakarta. The trial is conducted from 7 to 29 April 2021 at the school that has passed the health protocol test. This measure indicates a transition process in education as the Government’s effort to recover Indonesia’s condition.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic has arrived in Indonesia last year, the condition has forced schools, universities, and educational institutions to change their teaching and learning process from offline to online. However, to adapt to the new system, many challenges have hampered the educational process both in the side of students and teachers.

Many students across the country that has no internet access find difficulty in following the lesson, while students who have access believed that online learning will never be able to replace offline learning. From the teacher’s perspective, the learning is not effective as they have no access to see the student’s progress in learning directly. The learning process’s duration is also shortened due to technical problems, such as the availability of quotas.

The Government policy regarding the distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine to teachers and educational staff at school has opened the leeway to conduct face-to-face learning and teaching process. Previously, face-to-face learning (PTM) is completely implemented in every school over the nation, its trial is conducted.

In DKI Jakarta, schools that consist of Elementary School, Junior High, Senior High School, Vocational High School, and Islamic Schools carried out the trial today. This action is performed as a form of the transition of the education process into a new normal due to Government optimism to the Covid-19 vaccine injection.

In its application, as the initial move, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has appointed 100 schools to conduct the trial for two weeks. Even though, the Province recorded only 85 schools that took part in the trial. A total of 15 schools were out of the training list due to their insufficient participation in the activities and the lack of learning module preparation.

“There are 14 schools that failed and 1 school withdrew. So, a total of 15 schools were canceled. Out of 100, 85 were continued for face-to-face learning,” said Taga Raja, Public Relations Division of the DKI Jakarta Education Agency.

In the training process, according to the Province instruction, the trial was conducted with strict health protocol. The school has also sterilized its facilities to ensure that the Covid-19 transmission does not occur. The number of students in one class is also limited, approximately 50%.

“The classes should remain sterile, I ask the school to squirt disinfectant to the table, chair, and all of the goods that possibly utilized by the student to support their learning activities. I am grateful that the health protocol is excellently implemented, and we hope that the Covid-19 cases in Jakarta can fall down so as we can continue the face-to-face learning activities,” stated Taga.
