Heaptalk, Jakarta — During the Eid al-Fitr1445 H period, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat or IOH) experienced a significant 17% surge in data traffic. This surge is driven by the increased use of social media, short messaging, and mobile gaming applications.
Indosat has anticipated this increase in telecommunications needs by adding 2,145 new sites and 38 mobile base transceiver stations (MBTS). This addition is supported by a fiber optic network of more than 51,000 km and more than 224,000 km of fiber optic metro access to strengthen signals in priority locations.
Additionally, Indosat alerted more than 2,000 personnel who work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, both in the field and at the Indosat Network Operations Center (INOC) spread throughout Indonesia. As a result, the number of customer complaint tickets dropped by 26% for IM3 and 42% for Tri compared to the previous year’s Eid period.
Increased use in several apps: TikTok, Instagram, Youtube
According to Director and Chief Technology Officer Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Desmond Cheung, the service provided throughout the Eid al-Fitr period and also during the homecoming season is a testament to the company’s commitment to serving customers anywhere and in any situation, including during the Ramadan and Eid periods. “Our commitment to unparalleled network services guaranteed is the basis for continuing to improve network quality, not only in big cities, but also extended to rural areas throughout Indonesia,” said Desmond.
Furthermore, Desmond revealed that the improved network quality had led to an increase in customers’ use of several applications, such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. These were the biggest contributors to the surge in data traffic, with an average increase of 24%. Meanwhile, mobile games such as Mobile Legends, Free Fire, and Call of Duty recorded the highest spike in data traffic, with an average increase of 95%.
Sukabumi recorded the highest increase in traffic in Jabotabek
For the Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabotabek) areas, Indosat recorded the highest increase in data traffic in the Sukabumi area (40.1%). Serang and Bogor also recorded increases above the rise in national traffic, respectively, at 34.7% and 17.7% in the same period.
The head of Circle Jabotabek at Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Chandra Pradyot Singh said, “The increase in traffic, which reached double digits in the Jabotabek area, is proof of our success in providing Guaranteed Unparalleled Network Services in various priority locations and homecoming routes. Of course, this is also our motivation to continue to provide marvelous experiences for our customers in the Jabotabek area.”
