Besides receiving additional funds, Semaai has expanded the farmers’ shop network to over 2,800 villages in Central Java and serves 2.6 farmers in the region.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia-based agritech startup, Semaai, has obtained additional funding worth US$2.9 million, or approximately Rp45 billion, led by Accion Venture Lab and XA Network, with participation from Surge and Beenext as the existing investors. This additional funding was achieved within a year since the company first announced its seed funding of US$1.25 million.
With the latest injection, this agritech startup will manage the fund to expand the products by creating digital advisory and amplifying digital applications to enable farmers and retailers to access the nearest Saprotan — agricultural production facilities.
Responding to the newest investment, Semaai’s Co-Founder and CEO, Muhammad Yoga Anindito, admitted, “We are grateful for Accion Venture Lab, XA Networks, and our existing investors for having similar objectives in delivering an impact positively to the society,”
Aiming to empower agricultural MSMEs, Yoga realizes Indonesia’s MSMEs have a crucial role as farmers’ aggregators and support systems. Nevertheless, Semaai’s CEO recognizes that they have not been equipped with mature tools to serve the farmers’ requisite, with a transparent price and access to the market. For this reason, the presence of Semaai is expected to be a proper tool in serving the farmers.
Semaai proffers an integrated digital ecosystem to resolve the fragmented supply chain and enhance the technical capacity devoted to Indonesia’s agribusiness MSME, including retailers of agricultural production facilities in rural areas and the served farmers.
Semaai’s solutions cover three primary services for overcoming systemic issues in the agricultural industry, with a total value attaining US$100 billion. The company also provides a B2B digital marketplace service and agronomy service to enhance the number of agricultural products.
Since its inception in August 2021, Semaai startup claims to have established a network of farm shops and small farmers in over 2,800 villages in Central Java, with active farmer shops and MSME users in the marketplace, currently serving 2.6 million farmers in the region. Apart from showing significant users of its marketplace platform, this agricultural startup recorded the enhancement of its monthly transactions of thirty-seven-folds and generated twenty folds of monthly income growth.
“Indonesia’s farmers have significant roles in the agricultural evolvement in the archipelago, and we have observed a considerable opportunity to grant digital tools and the needed credit to elevate their businesses and subsistences. Thus, we are proud to partner with Semaai as the company possesses a comprehensive platform to expedite the digital transformation of the small retailers and farmers in Indonesia,” said Co-Managing Partner of Accion Venture Lab, Rahil Rangwala, in a statement.
