IIMS 2023 presents a total of 165 participants, with 45 of them representing brands of four-wheeled vehicles, two-wheelers, electric vehicles, and the supporting industry.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — The Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2023 has returned offline on February 16-26 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, which was previously held in a hybrid concept. President Joko Widodo was present to inaugurate the annual automotive exhibition showcasing the latest developments and innovations in the automotive industry (02/16).

President Joko Widodo expressed his contentment that car sales reached 1,048,000 units in 2022, an increase of 18% from the previous year. Meanwhile, motorcycle sales raised by 3.3% in 2022 reaching 5,221,000 units. Although it brings contributions to the economic side, the attainment may also drive traffic congestion due to the increasing number of vehicles on the road. Therefore, Joko Widodo encouraged the automotive industry players to export their products.

“I invite the entire automotive industry to be more export-oriented. Indeed, the increase has been quite sharp from 2021 to 2022, from 300.000 more or less it has risen to almost 600.000. I also want to thank the automotive industry for increasing its exports to 100%,” said President Joko Widodo at the opening of IIMS 2023 (16/2).

In addition, Joko Widodo also expressed his support for the development of the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Indonesia. Related to the incentives, the President said the Ministry of Finance is still calculating the amount for both cars and motorbikes. According to the President, incentives for electric motorbikes will take precedence.

He said, “Regarding the world trend going forward, all of these countries will encourage the use of electric cars. I also invite the automotive industry to start seeing this trend and gradually shift the industry towards the trend that almost all countries are currently moving towards, from combustion to electric cars. Since the government is also currently pushing from upstream to downstream, we can soon have this large ecosystem of electric cars, driving the industry players to enter the global supply chain. From EV batteries, from lithium batteries, we will continue to push for everything to be completed soon.”

Reviving the MICE industry and driving economic growth

Further, the implementation of IIMS is an opportunity for the government to demonstrate its efforts to support the automotive sector and demonstrate its commitment to driving economic growth through creative industries. With the theme “Bringing Opportunity for Automotive Society Together”, IIMS 2023 presents a total of 165 participants, with 45 participants representing brands of four-wheeled vehicles, two-wheelers, and electric vehicles.

As the organizer of IIMS 2023, Dyandra Promosindo expected that this offline event can indicate the revival of the meeting, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry after the covid-19 pandemic.

“We are very pleased to open IIMS in 2023 and help lead the recovery of the MICE industry, as well as it can become a vessel for businesses, communities, and consumers,” said President Director of Dyandra Promosindo Daswar Marpaung. He is optimistic that the event is can be a symbol of hope and a demonstration of the resilience and determination of the automotive industry. Further, IIMS has become a new ecosystem chain for the Indonesian automotive industry.

“IIMS 2023 simultaneously supports the government’s mission to motivate and encourage the acceleration of migration from fossil-conventional vehicles to electric or electric, according to the recently revised Presidential Instructions No. 7 of 2022. For this reason, we are looking forward to everyone’s presence at IIMS 2023. We hope that this event can be used as a platform for economic growth and success in Indonesia,” concluded Daswar.
