Heaptalk, Jakarta — Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Abdullah Azwar Anas announced that the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the government have agreed to amend the Law on State Ministries. This agreement was reached during a meeting at the Legislative Body of DPR RI on Monday (09/09).
“On behalf of the government, we accept the results of the discussion on the Draft Law on State Ministries at the working committee level, which forms the basis for today’s Level I decision. The government agrees to proceed to Level II at the DPR RI,” Anas stated.
The points of agreement include removing the explanation of Article 10, which regulates the position of deputy ministers. This follows a Constitutional Court ruling. Second, an amendment to Article 15, which limits the number of ministries. The current limit of 34 ministries will be changed to align with the President’s needs while considering the effectiveness of government operations.
The DPR initiated the amendment to Law No. 39/2008 on State Ministries. Anas added, “We greatly appreciate the DPR RI for initiating and drafting the Draft Law on State Ministries. We have discussed this constructively with the DPR RI, prioritizing improvements to government administration to make it more impactful.”
Furthermore, Anas stated that this agreement marks an initial step towards strengthening government management, particularly within state ministries. The fundamental principle underlying the deal in the draft is the effectiveness of governance.
Although the President holds the prerogative right to determine ministries, guidelines are still necessary to ensure that the primary consideration is the smooth running of the government. “The government believes that this Draft Law on State Ministries will support our collective efforts to improve Indonesia’s government system,” Minister Anas concluded.
