Heaptalk, Jakarta — PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia continues to positively contribute to the national economy, particularly in Indonesia’s critical five sectors: manufacturing, retail, Food and beverage, transportation, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
In the latest report of the Institute for Research on Economics and Society, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (LPEM FEB UI), this giant technology ecosystem has contributed to around US$15.9 billion, or approximately Rp259.6 trillion to US$24.1 billion, equal to Rp392 trillion for Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) last year, which comes from the added value that GoTo’s ecosystem, including driver partners and merchants, generated.
Even though Indonesia’s GDP is slowing due to global economic turmoil, the Head of LPEM FEB UI, Chaikal Nuryakin, conveyed that GoTo consistently contributes significantly to Indonesia’s economic growth.
“This year will experience significant global obstacles. Meanwhile, robust domestic consumption and government spending will support Indonesia’s economic growth. We are confident that the GoTo ecosystem will continue contributing to the national economy,” Chaikal added.
The LPEM FEB UI report also elaborated on the details of GoTo’s impact on the archipelago’s GDP primary driving forces, covering:
- Retail (wholesalers and retailers) and vehicle reparation through GoTo’s core business in on-demand services and e-commerce, with a value reaching US$9.5 billion to US$10.8 billion. The report disclosed that this sector has contributed 5.7%—6.5% to Indonesia’s GDP.
- Manufacture comes from the indirect impact of business activities from GoTo merchants, with an estimated value of around US$1.07 billion to US$2.7 billion. This sector boosted the national GDP by up to 0.5%—1.2%.
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT), with a value estimated around US$1.07 billion to US$1.5 billion. LPEM FEB UI noted that the sector improved the GDP by around 2%—2.8% last year.
- GoTo’s Food and beverage service has a value of US$764 million to US$1.2 billion. This service boosted the country’s GDP by 2.4%—3.7% in 2023.
- Transportation and logistics, with an estimated value of around US$766 million—US$1.2 billion. GoTo’s service is claimed to have contributed 1%—1.7% to the GDP.
