Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s ed-tech startup, Cakap, has demonstrated significant growth, proving that the education business in Indonesia remains in demand despite global challenges.
“In the first half of 2024, the entire Cakap team has achieved remarkable milestones with a positive trend through healthy business development. This reflects our commitment to continue growing through relevant innovations that cater to the needs of society, from early childhood to the workforce. Internally, we have also continued to improve management and quality standards, showing our achievement in receiving ISO 27001:2022 certification for consumer data security and ISO 9001:2015 for quality management in teaching.” CEO and Co-Founder of Cakap, Tomy Yunus, said.
Statistically, in the early semester of 2024, Cakap enhanced positively, with a cumulative total of over 5 million students. Hitherto, Cakap has empowered over 2,800 teachers and provides over 1,500 courses. Based on the latest demographic data, the city with the largest student demographic is the DKI Jakarta Province, followed by West Java and Banten Provinces. There has also been positive growth in Sumatra and Bali, such as in North Sumatra, South Sumatra, and NTB.
“Business Management, Technology, and Career Development are the most popular vocational subjects among the workforce in upskilling courses. From an age perspective, the 20-29 age group dominates Cakap’s classes, followed by the 10-19 age group. This demonstrates the enthusiasm for self-improvement, both in language and skills, from early to productive ages. On the other hand, in the language market-product segment over the past two years, English training remains the most in-demand, followed by Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin,” Tomy added.
Furthermore, Cakap’s Chief Financial Officer, Jonathan Dharmasoeka, continued to expand collaborations and strengthen standardization in the second quarter of 2024. Total revenue across all pillars (Language, Upskill, Business, Kids) grew by 158% in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2022. Cakap has also maintained positive EBITDA since 2020. The company is optimistic about achieving optimal results in 2024.
