Heaptalk, Jakarta — European Union (UN), once again, declares its interest to work together with Indonesians in a mutual effort to implement the green transition. This can be witnessed at an event held by the Forum Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) on October 19, 2021. The event was intended to discuss possibilities and strategies planned to make the cooperation bring fruitful results.
The effort to raise public awareness about climate change seems to always be on the cards nowadays. A public forum will surely help the public get some insight into a supposedly good strategy regarding climate change. From the possibility of youth as a tool to spread influence to a one-billion-dollar plan for energy transmission, the members of FPCI and the EU Executive Vice President, H.E Frans Timmermans did not hesitate to break barriers to implement understanding about what real cooperation is.
The public forum specifies the significant role of young people in heightening the possibility of a successful green transition and how they should be more organized in their approach and delivery to create effective influence. This then validates the measurement of importance EU has shown by involving more than 2.000 Indonesian students in climate transmission.
A great question was also asked regarding the involvement of poor people in the green transition and how poverty is possibly still an obstacle to tackle. The few strategies to smooth the progress were said to be education enhancement, electricity, and agricultural supplies. These specific actions will help the poor understand their involvement and make them aware of climate importance.
“This is about saving humanity. The planet will be there, whether we’re there or not. But if we make the planet so unlivable for humanity, that we will end up in endless wars over water and food, and that will happen to your generation if we don’t change our ways. Then at the end of the day, the planet will become so unlivable that mother earth will rid itself of humanity and that will be our fault. We can make this transition happen. It’s still possible. We can fix this.” said Timmermans in the live discussion.
