Heaptalk, Jakarta – While the Indonesian film industry continues to ride the wave of horror blockbusters, Beehave Pictures offers a refreshing change of pace with its upcoming drama, Tabayyun. Following the critical and commercial success of Air Mata di Ujung Sajadah in 2023—which drew over three million viewers and became Malaysia’s highest-grossing Indonesian film—the production house is once again betting on emotional storytelling to win audiences.
Adapted from Ilyas Bachtiar’s best seller novel, Tabayyun centers on Zalina, a strong single mother grappling with the wounds of her past while learning to value herself and open up to love. Her journey takes a turn when she meets Arlo, the only son of her boss, who falls deeply for her. But the scars of trauma and societal stigma cause Zalina to question her self-worth and stand in the way of her happiness.
Directed by Key Mangunsong, the film features a powerhouse cast including Titi Kamal (as Zalina), Naysila Mirdad, Ibrahim Risyad (as Arlo), and veteran actress Jenny Rachman. Executive producer Nafa Urbach emphasized the importance of casting well-known actors to “deliver greater value to the audience,” while fellow producer Ronny Irawan noted that beyond star power, the priority was actors who could “channel the emotional depth required for a drama.”
Ronny also highlighted that Tabayyun is steeped in themes of humanity, particularly issues that resonate in today’s society—such as the struggles faced by single mothers. The film’s title itself, an Arabic term meaning “to seek truth before acting or spreading information,” anchors its core message.
Lead actress Titi Kamal shared that the role was emotionally taxing. “Even during the early scenes, I felt emotionally overwhelmed. I had to isolate myself in my room to process the intensity—I truly experienced a mental breakdown,” she revealed.
Tabayyun is set to premiere in Indonesian theaters on May 8, bringing a story of empathy, healing, and personal truth to the big screen. Confident in the film’s emotional power, Ronny expressed optimism that it will resonate just as strongly as Beehave’s previous hit, saying the team hopes the story will leave a lasting impact on viewers.
