Heaptalk, Jakarta — In celebration of the sixth anniversary, Indonesia’s coffee vending machine startup, JumpStart, continues amplifying the business-to-consumer (B2C) sector by releasing its smart capsule machine, Never Ordinary Device (NOD)
NOD is Indonesia’s only capsule machine that brews coffee and non-coffee beverages, including tea, herbal drinks, and milk-based options. This advanced machine offers a seamless one-touch operation, allowing users to manage beverage settings effortlessly.
Through the NOD app, users can precisely control the water levels for each drink automatically. Another standout feature is its self-cleaning capability, eliminating the hassle of manual cleaning after each use. NOD’s additional innovations include the Milk Steaming Technology, which produces high-quality steamed milk, and the Brew and Bloom Technology, enhancing tea’s aroma for a rich sensory experience.
At its initial launch, NOD introduced 13 drink varieties, including Indonesian coffee specialties such as Aceh Gayo Highland, Bali Kintamani, Never Ordinary Blend, and Double Power Blend (double shot). Non-coffee options range from teas like Chamomile, Red Blanc, Fruit Loose, and Roasted Oolong Milk Tea to fusion drinks like Kyoto Matcha Latte, Wedang Jahe (a traditional ginger drink), and Wind Breaker.
“This expansion is supported by sustainable technology development and a well-planned operational strategy to ensure optimal service quality. We are thrilled to celebrate our six-year journey by launching NOD as a ‘personal barista at home,’ marking a strategic step to broaden our market reach and offer a practical, convenient automated shopping experience,” JumpStart’s CEO, Brian Imawan, affirmed.
Exceptional leaps of JumpStart 6th existence
Since 2018, JumpStart has experienced significant growth in the number of machines deployed across various locations in Indonesia. In its first year, 92 machines were installed, which increased to 484 units in 2019. This trend continued steadily, reaching:
- 700 machine units in 2020
- 1,000 vending machines in 2021
- 1,700 units in 2022
- 3,000 coffee machines in 2023.
- With fantastic performance annually, JumpStart has operated about 4,000 machines this year.
Regarding strategic investment, JumpStart seized an undisclosed investment in a Series B round led by Cool Japan Fund (CJF) and Living Lab Ventures last year. This startup also gained Series A investment from GDP Venture in 2018.
This startup recorded revenue growth of more than 400% in the second half of 2022 and posted its EBITDA positively. The rapid growth influenced this achievement in post-pandemic market demand, product innovation, and education regarding this smart machine facility’s use, facilitating customers to get products anytime.
“We are targeting a more aggressive expansion to bring eco-friendly technology and a premium beverage experience directly to consumers’ homes.” CMO of JumpStart, Raynald Soeharto, said.
By expanding its reach in the B2C market, JumpStart aims to produce over 20,000 machines by 2029, expected to position itself as an integrated retail platform across Indonesia.
