Heaptalk, Jakarta — XL Axiata announced the company’s joining into Kadin Net Zero Hub (11/13). This measure aims to provide a forum for the company to exchange knowledge and information, broaden horizons, and share resources to embody a low-emission ecosystem in Indonesia.
XL Axiata’s participation in this community is aligned with its goal to become a telecommunications company in Indonesia that pays attention to the principles of sustainability in business. To mark this initiative, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of XL Axiata Marwan O. Baasir together with Deputy Chairperson for Maritime, Investment and Foreign Affairs of Kadin Indonesia Shinta W. Kamdani and Head of Kadin Net Zero Hub Dharsono Hartono signed a memorandum of cooperation in Jakarta (11/08).
Kadin Net Zero Hub is an initiative of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to support national companies to transition to Net Zero by providing toolkits, resources, and guidelines to assist the Indonesian private sector in starting their net zero journey. Additionally, this hub also enlists assistance from multiple parties such as international organizations, international development agencies, and business-related enablers that will help the Indonesian private sector embrace and initiate its net zero journey.
“As a developing country, Indonesia is faced with the challenge of finding a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability. All parties, including XL Axiata, have an important role to play in contributing to this, especially by conducting low-carbon operations,” said Marwan O. Baasir.
Targeting to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050
Since 2019, his party has been calculating Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions. Marwan conveyed that XL Axiata is determined to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. In daily operations, the company has implemented several initiatives, including adopting technologies to improve business efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The technology adopted includes AI Power Intelligent and AI Power Management, Analytics Network Equipment Shutdown, as well as the application of the outdoor concept in device placement. Apart from that, XL Axiata also involves suppliers and partners with 75% of top spenders who have also supported the net zero emission target.
Meanwhile, Shinta W. Kamdani congratulated XL Axiata on becoming a member of Kadin Net Zero Hub. She said, “Hopefully with the addition of members, Kadin Net Zero Hub can be more solid and encourage networking and collaboration between members and other supporting partners. Surely, we can continue to foster a shared commitment to achieving net zero.”
Currently, Indonesia has increased its commitment to reduce emissions in the form of Nationally Determined Contribution, from 29% to 31.89% in 2030 on its own efforts, or the equivalent of reducing carbon emissions by 912 million tons of CO2.
