Launched in April 2023, the Mastercard Strive Indonesia program was initiated by the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, the National Council for Inclusive Finance (DNKI), and Mercy Corps Indonesia. The partners will work together with program initiators to empower 300,000 small businesses by 2025 with the participation of 40% of women business actors.
These new partners are Shopee, MicroMentor Indonesia, Doku, Bank BJB, 60 Decibels, Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN), Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, Indonesian Business Development Services Association (ABDSI), and Association of Indonesian Migrant Workers Entrepreneurs (Perwira PMI).
In his opening remarks, Vice President of Marketing Development at Mastercard Indonesia Abdul Hamid Farid conveyed that globally Mastercard is committed to bringing 15 million small businesses and 25 million women-led or owned businesses into the global economy by 2025. While in Indonesia, the company has been significantly investing over the past three decades. Farid admitted that his party has been agile and active in building a digitally and financially inclusive society.
“We believe collaboration between the public and the private sector is crucial to unlock the complete potential of small businesses. By combining our resources, knowledge, and connections we can help small businesses thrive in Indonesia’s digital economy,” Farid voiced in Jakarta (08/31).
Building Strive Digitalization Learning Network
Meanwhile, Executive Director at Mercy Corps Indonesia Ade Soekadis emphasized that his party seeks to empower Micro and Small Enterprises (MSMEs), primarily businesses led or owned by women, through digitalization and inclusive financial services. Ade said, “Apart from that, we are committed to encouraging policy changes to support the MSE ecosystem by building a Digital Learning Network that will be actively involved in a series of discussion and seminar activities.”
In more detail, Shopee and MicroMentor Indonesia will help build digital skills through the use of digital tools that cover information dissemination, training, mentoring, payment processing, and digital marketing. Doku’s payment gateway will accelerate digital adoption for small businesses by enhancing convenient and secure payment options, including digital tools and training programs to grow their business digitally.
Bank BJB will provide financial literacy education, digital-based financial management, and various educational resources for small businesses. Its main focus is to overcome existing obstacles and open opportunities for access to credit services.
Further, 60 Decibels will conduct research on the digitalization of small businesses. The results of this research will be used as a basis for AVPN and the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas to build Strive Digitalization Learning Network, a platform for collaborating, sharing knowledge, and informing policies that support small businesses. Finally, ABDSI and Perwira PMI will form a mentor network for small business development.
