Toyota Indonesia targets to export the Innova Zenix at least 8,000 units in 2023, consisting of 30% HEV and 70% internal combustion engine type.

Heaptalk, Jakarta — Automotive manufacturer PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) makes history by exporting a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) made in Indonesia for the first time. The Company reportedly has released Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid to 27 destination countries worldwide with a total of 2,000 units in 2023.

The Innova Zennix HEV is produced domestically at the Toyota Indonesia factory in Karawang, West Java. Currently, TMMIN’s annual production capacity reaches 320,000 units of vehicles together with 440,000 units of engines and parts produced in 4 factories in Karawang and Sunter.

This manufacturer has also exported 136,000 completely built-up (CBU) units in 2022, with total cumulative exports up to 2022 reaching more than 2 million CBU units to more than 100 countries in the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Latin America, Oceania, and Australia. Meanwhile, Toyota’s total investment that has been realized until 2022 has reached Rp77.9 trillion, which equals to US$5.1 billion (US$1 worth Rp15,202), with a commitment of an additional investment of Rp27.1 trillion or US$1.7 billion until 2026.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita attended the inaugural export ceremony of local Toyota electrification vehicles from Indonesia to the world in Jakarta (02/21). “This proves that Indonesian products are able to penetrate the Australian market, which is known for having strict specifications, including those related to fuel specifications, emission specifications, and safety specifications,” said Minister Agus.

Further, Agus appreciated that Toyota Indonesia is one of the companies that were present when this country started the industrialization process and has now been participating in developing the automotive sector in the country for 50 years.

Apart from that, Agus also expressed his gratitude for the partnership formed by TMMIN with small and medium industry players in automotive components. This partnership can certainly strengthen the supply chain in the country to be integrated from upstream to downstream. “The Innova Zenix product that will be exported is produced from 70% local content. This is our pride,” Agus added.

Export target of 8,000 units in 2023 for HEV and conventional types

In addition, Agus also acknowledged the implementation of Industry 4.0 technology by TMMIN in its production process. He said, “Therefore, the production process is more efficient and can increase competitiveness. We will propose TMMIN as the national lighthouse of the automotive sector.”

The Toyota xEV Center owned by TMMIN is recognized as an essential facility for providing socialization and education to the public, primarily on implementing green mobility products. According to the Minister, the existence of this learning center is important to encourage acceleration towards green mobility products.

Meanwhile, President Director of TMMIN Warih Andang Tjahjono delivered that the first export of Kijang Innova Zenix would not have been realized without the packed support of the Indonesian Government, strong partnerships from the entire supply chain, including small and medium industries (IKM), and community support. “Hopefully we can contribute even more to grow together and increase global competitiveness in the effort to meet the development of the Indonesian and global automotive industry,” said Warih.

In 2023, Toyota Indonesia aims to export more than 8,000 Kijang Innova Zenix with a composition of 30% HEV and 70% internal combustion engine (ICE) type to countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. Innova Zenix exports are expected to continue to increase every year with a target of 17,000 units in 2025 for hybrid and conventional types.
