Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s carbon industry continues to develop significantly, and the need for industry experts is projected to increase, eventually expediting the government’s intention to reach a Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060.

In an interview on Forum Carbon Indonesia’s YouTube Channel which was hosted by Poempida Hidayatulloh, Supervisory Board of Carbon Emission Expert Indonesia (Acexi), Sulad Sri Hardanto, admitted that certification development schemes and training are critical steps to qualifying human resources in the industry.

Acexi continues developing special certifications to produce skilled and certified carbon experts. Sulad further stated that the certification plan involves dividing levels into basic, intermediate, and advanced, with the final objective of generating a Certified Emission Expert (CEE) with an additional title of their specified expertise in the industry.

According to him, this certification process will deliver multiple benefits for individuals, including:

  • Advancement of industry competency: Sulad conveyed that the certification will ensure that people prove the necessary competency to contribute to the carbon industry.
  • Better job opportunities: He further observed that the high demand for certified experts in the industry will enable people to obtain better employment.
  • Income improvement: From his perspective, the industry’s certified talent could earn a more significant salary.

“Also, the professional community will recognize people better in terms of ‘rates’ because if we get a certification, then we have a competency standard that experts already designed.” Poempida Hidayatulloh, a Carbon Exchange Activist, added.

Regarding the process, Sulad elaborated on two paths to certification: certification from an association, which has a more rapid process, and certification from a Professional Certification Agency (LSP) accredited by the National Professional Certification Agency (PNSP), which has a more extensive process and higher credibility.

Furthermore, Acexi will also involve strategic collaboration with multiple Indonesian education institutions, such as Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM), to improve their credibility. With these various efforts, Sulad said it was important for Acexi members to support the certification development process by contributing to developing curriculum, training materials, and competency units.

“For Acexi members, please wait for our process in preparing the certification. We need your support in developing the curriculum and the material to make the process quicker. We already have the certification body LSP to send your member to participate in the training and certification. It will benefit the industry to expedite Indonesia’s goal in achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060,” said Sulad in his closing statement.
