Ericsson strengthens Telkomsel’s network with an ultra-lightweight and energy-efficient Massive MIMO antenna integrated radio AIR 3219 which will function to meet future 5G requirements.
Heaptalk, Jakarta — Telkomsel (PT Telekomunikasi Selular) extended its cooperation agreement with Ericsson to develop and reinforce their current 4G/5G networks in Indonesia. The partnership renewal was announced at the Ericsson Imagine Live event in Jakarta (08/08).
Currently, Ericsson strengthens Telkomsel’s network with an ultra-lightweight and energy-efficient Massive MIMO antenna integrated radio AIR 3219. This technology will function to meet future 5G and Fixed Wireless Access and Convergence (FWA/FMC) requirements.
“As a reliable, long-term technology partner, we warmly welcome the renewal of partnership to provide 4G/5G connectivity with Ericsson, which is a continuation of their commitment to strengthening the latest broadband network technology support they have in Indonesia,” stated the Director of Networks at Telkomsel Nugroho.
Nugroho is optimistic that the enhancement in the 4G/5G network will support his party to carry out the development of services for the B2B and B2C segment, primarily for bolstering the industry 4.0 ecosystem, strengthening smart cities, as well as providing greater benefits for consumers and across industrial sectors in Indonesia.
Further, he added, “With the measurable and gradual deployment of Telkomsel’s 5G network, we continue to open up more potential for progress and be at the forefront of accelerating the adoption of an increasingly inclusive and sustainable digital lifestyle.”
Has rolled out 5G B2B services in Batam since 2021
Ericsson has deployed energy efficient 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) products and services through Ericsson Radio System in Aceh, North Sumatra, Central and West Sumatra, as well as parts of East Kalimantan, including the new Capital City IKN. In the B2B segment, the company has rolled out 5G services for the industry at a manufacturing company in Batam since 2021.
Meanwhile, the Head of Ericsson Indonesia Jerry Soper welcomed the partnership renewal with Telkomsel regarding Ericsson’s existing radio footprint in Indonesia. He said, “Our latest generation of multi-band and Massive MIMO radios like AIR 3219, and basebands that are being deployed in the network, can help Telkomsel reduce energy consumption thereby significantly lower their energy costs and total cost of ownership going forward.”
Recently, Ericsson has established 147 live 5G networks across 63 countries. The company was recognized as the most sustainable telco vendor by the latest ABI Research report. Having been present in Indonesia for 116 years, Ericsson has played a key role in strengthening telecommunications in the country by providing 2G, 3G, 4G and now 5G connectivity.
