Heaptalk, Jakarta — Tomoro Coffee, one of the coffee shop chains in Indonesia, has established a coffee roastery with a production capacity of up to 2,400 tons per year. According to the President Director of Tomoro Coffee Star Yuan, this stride aims to accomplish the vision of more than 1,000 outlets throughout Indonesia by 2024.
This new roastery facility employs quality roasting machines that can track the production process from start to finish. This feature will secure consistent results in each batch of coffee production since the roasting process is carefully monitored through software, ensuring the coffee’s taste remains consistent.
The new roasting machine is equipped with two afterburners, which will reduce smoke pollution by more than 60% during the coffee roasting process. The construction of environmentally friendly facilities increasingly reflects the store’s commitment to the economic sustainability of the business and the resulting impact on the environment.
“The presence of the Tomoro Coffee roastery is a form of our commitment to present a sustainable industry that can later form an ecosystem from upstream to downstream in the Indonesian coffee industry. We designed this coffee roastery with three production phases, using quality coffee beans, and it has a production capacity of up to 2,400 tons per year,” said Star Yuan.
Market value in Indonesia reaches US$947m
Currently, this franchise brand has a network of more than 500 stores in Indonesia and several Southeast Asian countries, including Singapore, China, and the Philippines. According to a Momentum Works report entitled ‘Coffee in Southeast Asia: Modernizing Retail of the Daily Beverage,’ Indonesia dominates the modern coffee market in Southeast Asia in 2023.
The coffee market value in Indonesia is estimated at US$947 million, calculated from the annual turnover value of the modern coffee market. This figure is equivalent to 27.7% of the total value of the modern coffee market in Southeast Asia, which will reach US$3.4 billion in 2023. The strength of the modern coffee market in Indonesia is primarily driven by the expansion of local coffee business networks, including Tomoro Coffee.
Further, Tomoro only serves 100% Arabica coffee beans. Several menus use selected coffee beans that have received the IIAC Gold Medal 2023. Freshly roasted coffee beans are also sent to all shops in the country on a scheduled basis every ten days.
Tomoro Coffee Product Manager Hadi Suwardi added, “The quality of Tomoro Coffee coffee presented through the coffee roastery also collaborates with local coffee activists and makes them partners in the main chain of the coffee business in Indonesia. Tomoro Coffee has a strong commitment to promoting coffee grown by local Indonesian farmers to compete with coffee from abroad.”
