Heaptalk, Jakarta — Celebrating 45 years of operation in Indonesia, L’Oréal, the French beauty company, has directly and indirectly contributed to approximately 27,000 full-time jobs in the country, according to global data from Asterès.

A recent company study found that each full-time job generates an additional 27.8 jobs in related ecosystems. This is five times higher than the national average and one of the highest revenue lines worldwide. “With over 280 million people and over 1,000 ethnicities, beauty unites us. Beauty grows with social and cultural richness. We celebrate important milestones with beauty. These rituals transcend merely aesthetics to embody respect, spirituality, and community values,” stated Junaid Murtaza, President Director of L’Oréal Indonesia in South Jakarta (02/06).

Thus far, the cosmetics company has partnered with over 120 retail stores, clinics, pharmacies, and salons, including high-end hairstylists, makeup artists, and underprivileged women nationwide. It also works with over 440 vendors and 800,000 creators, influencers, and affiliates nationwide.

Murtaza added, “We are proud to offer something for everyone, serving the diverse beauty needs of the people of Indonesia by staying true to our commitment to innovation and inclusivity. In Indonesia, we are proud to have the L’Oreal Yasulor Factory, the largest L’Oreal factory in the world, exporting to 20 countries.”

Establishing research centers

L’Oréal Indonesia’s 45th-anniversary celebration was attended by Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs; Faisol Riza, Deputy Minister of Industry; and Fabien Penone, French Ambassador to Indonesia; Timor Leste, and ASEAN.

Airlangga Hartarto praised L’Oréal as a truly Indonesian multinational company. He acknowledged the positive impact of L’Oréal’s 45 years of operation on the economy and society and its efforts to expand exports to 20 countries and support the industry’s supply chain. This aligns with the government’s vision of promoting domestic production and exports.

“We appreciate L’Oréal’s innovations, from establishing research centers and providing multiple training to producing a wide range of beauty products. For 45 years, L’Oréal has shown that beauty is not exclusive but inclusive. Additionally, we appreciate L’Oréal’s and the beauty industry’s contribution in creating jobs and supporting the local economy and SMEs,” Airlangga stated in his keynote speech at the 45th-anniversary celebration of L’Oréal Indonesia in South Jakarta (02/06).

Impacting 1 million people through social programs

Faisol Riza, Deputy Minister of Industry, conveyed that the manufacturing industry achieved its highest level since June 2024, with the Purchasing Managers’ Index reaching 51.9 in January 2025. This success is partly due to the contribution of the cosmetic sector, which was driven by the rapid growth of Indonesia’s beauty industry.

“We appreciate L’Oréal’s contributions to the manufacturing industry through PT Yasulor in Cikarang and the commercial processes in Jakarta. We also commend L’Oréal’s commitment to establishing a halal-certified factory, reflecting its broader support for the community,” Faisol said (02/06).

According to Fabien Penone, the company’s presence in Indonesia reflects the close economic partnership and innovation between France and Indonesia since the 1950s. He noted that the company positively impacts nearly 1 million people across Indonesia through multiple social programs. He voiced, “We hope L’Oréal Indonesia continues to bring positive change to Indonesian society and the economy while strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and France.”

One of the company’s mental well-being programs, Maybelline New York Brave Together, has provided free counseling services to over 126,955 individuals facing anxiety and depression. The Professionnel Head Up program has also trained 2,338 hairdressers to raise awareness about mental health challenges in their profession.
