Heaptalk, Jakarta — Indonesia’s tourism sector has achieved a remarkable milestone. The Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI), officially released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on May 21, 2024, shows that Indonesia has surged ten places, rising from 32nd to 22nd in the global rankings.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Kemenparekraf), Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (05/21), delivered that Indonesia has outperformed Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam regarding tourism competitiveness.
“Indonesia has achieved a ranking increase, rising by 4.46% from 32 to 22. Therefore, we should never feel inferior to other countries regarding Indonesian tourism because we are now in the top 22 globally,” said Minister Sandiaga.
This data indicates that Indonesia’s tourism sector has successfully climbed up or recovered using an effective and efficient budget. This progress demonstrated that the programs and policies rolled out by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy are well-targeted, beneficial, and timely. They directly impact the tourism and creative economy sectors, thereby creating jobs and driving economic recovery.
“Even with an efficient budget, we can innovate, adapt, and collaborate. I expect we can continue to promote this spirit of adaptation, innovation, and collaboration,” said Sandi.
Minister of Tourism also hopes that this achievement will continue under future leadership. “This achievement is a baton we will hand over to the new minister. The leap we made was extraordinary, and hopefully, we can continue to improve our ranking,” concluded Minister Sandiaga Uno.
