Phase 2A of the Jakarta MRT, which spans 5.8 kilometers (km), will have seven underground stations: Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Kota. The construction is divided into two segments. Segment one, Bundaran HI-Harmoni, is targeted for completion in 2027, and segment two, Harmoni-Kota, is targeted for completion in 2029.
“Phase 2A of the Jakarta MRT is being built at a cost of approximately Rp25.3 trillion (approximately US$1.5 billion with US$1 equals Rp16,285), funded through a cooperation loan between the Indonesian and Japanese governments,” explained PT MRT Jakarta. Meanwhile, Phase 2B of the Jakarta MRT, planned to extend from Kota to Depo Ancol Barat, is still in the feasibility study stage.
Unlike Phase 1, MRT Jakarta officials noted that Phase 2A is being built to develop station areas that incorporate transit-oriented development. The company explained, “This construction concept not only prepares the infrastructure for the Jakarta MRT stations but also integrates the areas into a blend of transit functions with human activities, buildings, and public spaces, optimizing access to public transportation to support passenger capacity.”
PT MRT also detailed that the construction of Monas Station has entered the stage of casting the platform slab walls and floors at the cooling tower, installing nose blade preparation for jacking at entrance one of Museum Street, casting the structural walls at entrance two in the southwest corner of Monas, partial testing of installed mechanical and electrical systems at the primary substation (RSS), installing the HVAC system, cable pathways, water supply pipes, drainage, and fire suppression system, completing architectural work at the primary substation (RSS), installing lightweight brick walls, finishing and painting the station, and installing the ACP (Aluminium Composite Panel) frames and ceiling support frames.
Meanwhile, at Thamrin Station, ongoing work includes the completion of the concourse slab casting, excavation and casting of the base slab, casting of the northern station columns, jet grouting preparation for the construction of entrance four, installing OTE Duct on the north side of the station, reconstructing the drainage system for the stabling yard area, and installing drainage pipes under the platform.
As of December 25, 2023, tunnel boring machine one is being dismantled. “The construction team is also continuing to install the tunnel walkway, cast the track bed in the tunnel, and install the fire suppression pipes,” PT MRT Jakarta concluded.
